BlackBerry Storm: Apple iPhone 3G Benchmark, Really?

When Apple launched their iPod they took over the MP3 player market and became the benchmark for all new audio and media players.
Then we heard that Apple was going to launch a phone of all things, this was met with tons of skepticism and excitement from Apple fans thanks to a dedicated following of those that love all things Apple and Mac.
Now that we have had the iPhone and a newer 3G model, we are seeing many new cell phones compared to the iPhone 3G as if it’s now the benchmark in the high-end phone market. It’s funny how things go.
Phones Review have posted a good post showing ten reasons why they claim the BlackBerry Storm (RIMs first touchscreen) is better than the Apple iPhone 3G. You can check out those 10 reasons here or leave a comment below and tell us if you think the iPhone 3G is now the benchmark.

There 10,000 reason why you should not buy a Storm. But I cant list all of them.
Storm is a step backward. No Wi-Fi.? Doesn’t Blackberry know that Planes are offering Wi-Fi onboard? iPhone works beautifully in plane coz you can put it to Airplane mode still use the Wi-Fi.
Blackberry is bragging about MMS who the hell want age old stale feature MMS when you can do live photo streaming on iPhone and email picture with one click.
A person from third world country proudly say I have a cordless phone . Because he doesn’t know technology has gone high tech that cordless phone is nothing. Same way Blackberry is so happy saying that it has MMS. Who give a damn, may be people who don’t know what is live photo streaming.
Storm is capable of displaying only little over 50,000 colors while iPhone displays over 200,000. Is there even a competition? You will notice a stark difference in color contrast when you visit websites like ESPN, CNN, BBC.
I can open 6 pages of safari together on iPhone and work smoothly but when i opened 4th page on Storm everything got frozen.
Should it be even called a smartphone?
Storm doesn’t have VoIP capabilities. VoIP is the need of today and it lacks it. iPhone has super smooth VoIP function and remote access to your PC is a charm
Now comes to performance. Storm doesn’t even know how to spell touch screen. The touch screen is unresponsive,jagged and poky. When you flip it to switch to landscape mode it takes at least 10 seconds to switch. When you flick the screen it freezes. I mean didn’t they test this phone before releasing? its not just a bad phone its the disaster of all time.
iPhone has over 6,000 amazing application Storm will never any quality Apps coz of its faulty accelerometer and super slow touchscreen.
After using iPhone when you use Storm you feel like driving an used Hyundai car, that too on steep uphill, after driving a new BMW Z8.
Reasons tu buy the Storm? here are some:
- Battery can be changed
- Bluetooth is A2DP
- Memory Card Expansion
- Copy and paste (hello iPhone, never heard about that haven’t you?)
- No need to encode AVI’s such as the iPhone
- RIM’s email style is unbeatable
- Innovative clickable touch screen
- No need to tweak to install themes and ringtones
- Real push-email
I know some people are disappointed with their new Storms, several reasons surfaced as lags during internet browsing, music volume when skipping tracks but after all do you remember the chaos when the iPhone 3G came out last July? People could barely send txts and make calls because of the 2.0 firmware…
I’m not sure if we can call the Storm the iPhone killer but it’s probably one of the most serious competitors on the market at the moment.
Who cares if battery can be changed. Is it a feature. Oh yes I got it now. Storm user has nothing else to do so they will be changing the batteries of their Storm. Because Storm is frozen most of the time.
iPhone doesn’t have removable battery because you don’t need to change the battery. This is Apple style.

Are you ignorant ?before writing blogs update your information otherwise you will be laughing stock. iPhone does have cut,copy and paste in its notepad called MagicPad.
Clickable screen is innovative? yes its innovative to the extent that you can’t type anything and by the time you figure out how much pressure you need to put screen freezes and now you have to use the best feature of cell phone that world has ever witnessed- Removable battery. Now you got to remove the legendary battery from Storm and then put it back.
Expandable memory ?
Who need more memory than 16GB ?
iPhone has Microsoft Exchange mail and business users love it. iPhone has become favorite among business user and highest selling phone in US.
iPhone has application like SAP business,Oracle and iR. All these big companies are making custom application for iPhone. Not only that SAP pays their manager to buy the SAP app that costs $449 and there is another app that costs $900. You can imagine the power and significance of iPhone.
Storm does everything but it does nothing worth appreciation. iPhone may not do everything but whatever it does, does perfectly just in Apple style.
I have been using Apple Macbook Pro for last three years and I never shut off my computer I dont even know where is the battery coz i dont care my battery is as good as new. And PC users have to change their PC’s batteries twice in three years.

For you people bitching about no wifi = you have to be IN a wi fi area for wi fi to work… maybe i cant use the blackberry in \’airplane\’mode on a plane, but compare the connectivity of verizon service to limited wi fi service areas…. try using it in the country or while travelling… plus you have to deal with att\’s shitty service and its horrible customer service reps… see what happens if your phone is lost stolen or damaged… att tells you to file it under your HOMEOWNERS policy… at least verison can insure ANY of their phones for ANY reason… even water damage… lets see your iphone provider do THAT. I can see maybe if you are an apple fanatic why the iphone is better for you… maybe… but it is not worth its hype, cost limitations and having to deal with att. oh, by the way - you can stream with blackberry, but you try to send a video you just shot with the iphone to anyone… oops! another thing you cant do on the iphone… take a video clip… does the iphone have a flash? nope… Personally, I would rather have the photo and video and other advantages the blackberry has instead of having it work with wifi on an airplane… People bitch about archaic mms service, but why should a 500.00 phone be not capable of sending a photo to another cell phone unless it\’s through email??? What a PAIN? What if who I need to send it to isn\’t by a computer to get an email message? That is an advantage to you iphone people??? Wait till your battery has an issue sometime and you have to MAIL IN your phone and be without it for several days just to fix the battery… I know more than one person this has happened to… I sent a photo to an iphone user and it took over 10 min to download it to the iphone… i sent the same photo at the same time to another friend in the same room , that person had the blackberry storm, they had it in less than a minute and were viewing it . I sent it from another friends phn that had t-mobile (just to make sure it was from a third network) That proved the horrible download speeds on the iphone… Most people do not need to have the phone to work with programs that are 500.00 to 900.00… if I needed to use serivces at that level I would prefer my laptop…. By the way, try downloading music and photos and other info from a home pc and put it on your iphone… with the blackberry, save it to the REMOVABLE memory card, and put it right on the cell phn… can i phone do that? For all of its \’technology\’ it seems to have forgotten a lot of basic phone features… To me it\’s like selling a cell phn without a car charger because it is considered an \”old\” feature…
Actually SAP prefers the managers to have iPhone with SAP application it’s not the choice it’s the need. And it has many feature that makes your life easier if you are an SAP consultant its so technical I cant list the features. Its like carrying a bunch of important document right on your phone with ability to get it scanned. You cant to it on your Laptop. This is just one example there are thousands of other things.
You will have to be in Wi-Fi zone? Today most of the place you will find Wi-Fi. Finding Wi-Fi hotspot is not difficult.
Filing under homeowner policy? I don’t know about this so I can’t comment.
iPhone can’t take video coz big corporate house don’t prefer video camera in office. iPhone became no.1 choice among business user there must be a reason.
Hotel like Ritz Carlton,Hilton offer remote control of the speakers through Wi-Fi through out the presidential suit. iPhone can control the music in entire suit. Storm lol….Storm is just good in local bus like Hyundai is no. 1 company for the country it is originally from no offense but is Hyundai a car?
And you can transfer whatever you want from your computer to iPhone what the big deal about it? I dont want to carry a rotten memory card when I have 16GB iPhone with me.
I dont know if you have heard of Live photo streaming you can virtually get the pic in real time nothing can be faster than this.
And another thing you can watch full length movie online on iPhone , you cant do it on Storm. And if it takes long to send pic on your friend’s iPhone coz you don’t have live photo streaming which is the current rage. You tech is rotten and eventually Storm will bring it as it tried to bring a touchscreen (?) is it touch screen or hit screen? Apple is always miles ahead in technology.
Batteries have issues? Why can these non-Apple user digest that its doesn’t even exist in world of Apple. Of course a person from 3rd world wont believe that a car can run at 350 miles/hour.

You visit a website if you like something take a screenshot or select an image and take the shot of it. next time google the image to see the relevance, availability or the price. I understand these things are high tech a Storm user don’t need these features they are happy with removable batteries so that they keep on removing the batteries and that will keep them busy it’s like a game for them B3 Blackberry Battery Battery Game.
How can anybody like a phone with jagged touch screen which can display only 56,000 colors which doesn’t have VoIP. Blackberry Storm is not capable of taking even screenshots which immensely useful. Come one Blackberry you can do better than this and I wud love see you doing better and I am sure it will get better with updates and it will capture a separate market it wont take marketshare of Apple.
I like Blackberry too I just dont like Sansung,LG, Do china make phones????well no…pls dont say all the phones are made in China that is just “outsourcing ” of production like big hotel send linen to other place to get it cleaned. it doesnt mean that China is getting technological hub or anything.
Just wanted to correct a few things. I do own a Z8 and an I phone is no Z8. Just wanted to clear that up. Second you can watch a whole movie on a storm that is one of the things that the storm fixed. I carry a storm since I would rather trade wifi for having a phone in some places. I have accounts with both companies I will admit that I have not had the troubles some have had with AT&T, but this account dates back a long time. They don’t want to lose one that goes to 1988. I inherited it. I have a wireless broadband card in my laptop so i really use the hot spots very little. I still have not found a way to secure things the way i would like over wifi. The storm has its problems for sure. I don’t know that I like loosing the keyboard yet. I can not type as fast on the screen. Though if you divide the screen in half and type on it with both thumbs it works better. I still have not found out how to delete multiple emails as i did with the shift key and the scroll wheel on the 8830. I don’t have selecting text down yet to cut and paste and i don’t like having to open a menu to do some things i could have done with the keyboard. By the way don’t get mad at rim for the wifi problem that is a veri problem. They wanted it in the ph veri did not. I have friends with Iphones some love them some not so much. It is a preference thing. I think apple is messing up with there closed system. It was only through openness that they rose from irrelevance. I remember the Newton. I had one in collage. It was in its last version rather nice, but apple messed that one up or we would not need to have this conversation. On the sap thing of course sap would want there managers to have there software. That is like bmw giving its managers bmw’s to drive. How bad would that look if they showed up in an MB. I am happy someone has had good luck with there apple mac book. I bought one for my step sister and it certanally has not been trouble free. Her hard drive fouled up the first time right after she got it and finally after a year gave out. The super drive went out at the same time and it took a almost three weeks to get it fixed. I hate vista, but when my video card went out on my dell (big defect on invedia cards) they had me up and running in two days. I have dealt with apple service on the send it in program before. If they are not busy they are fast, but if you happen to have a battery problem when everybody else does that could be a problem. By the way what difference is there between having a 16gb mem card in your blackberry and a 16 gb I phone. I will never take it out of my storm either i will just put the storm in mass storage mode and transfer it over. It is not like I have to carry it in my pocket. The big advantage is that you can drop a 32gb card in when they get cheap in six months. I have an ipod and I love it. If my step sis apple was better or if the air was just a bit more functional I would have it. I am not an apple hater. The i phone does have the best browser, but opra keeps getting better and we may get Firefox. If you can please write out how to cut and paste in an Iphone. I have a friend that would greatly appreciate that. I have been using the storm so much that i need a second battery. So yes I am fascinated with that. Oh and the storm does hafe voip capability. It does not have skype and eq0 may not work on a storm, but there are several companies that do offer it. I am about to try one. Before you call someone ignorant try goggling some facts also. I will borrow an I phone and try the screen shots function. It may be useful. The latest software also is better in the storm it has cut down on some of the problems. They should not have shipped the first software. I was bad. Insurance is better than no insurance, but the verison insurance does have one problem they tend to send you refurbished phones. I am going to try the multiple browser windows on an i phone. I cant think of a reason i need it right now. I have to say the reason that i have had a blackberry the last few years is the reliability and durability. I treat them bad. I hope the storm continues that. I agree with the i phone guy on the camera I hate that my storm has one. I have to turn in my phone when i go to some plants now. One more thing no stereo bluetooth in the Iphone???? How is that innovative. You know it is just like you cant get built in broad band in a mac book either. You think those would be givens. I know apple likes to use proven tec like 5500 rpm hard drives, but pc has blazed the trail for a while now. You can get broad band in an acer aspire now. I have google maps on my phone though it is less useful as verison does not give it gps access. Well i guess it comes down to how much you need a gsm network and if you can handle the apple quirks. I like the email on the blackberry and have no need for exchange on either.
Well, if iPhone is not Z8 then Storm is not even Hyundai or KIA.

Apple holds 20% market share now in US. iPhone has been voted as the most favorite phones among business users. Recent surveys show 77% people are extremely satisfied with iPhone only 33% users are satisfied with Storm.
I think the grand success of Apple is its closed platform. This is the reason it can control the quality. This is proven fact whatever becomes a massive hit in the masses, lose the quality so of course iPhone wont be as popular in the world as Nokia and if it gets that popular I will denounce it. Coz I love things which is popular only in countries like US,Canada,UK,Switzerland,Australia,NZ,France,Germany,Italy and Israel. I don’t care if Apple has no market in China,Korea, or middle east . And Apple should never compromise with quality. I would buy apple even if it doubles the price.
iPhone does have copy and paste and it also has full office support. You can create , view and edit MS Office it has iWork support too. You can listen to songs which are stored in your home computer from anywhere in the world I mean US.
Stereo Bluetooth is one think that iPhone lacks I admit.
You can now send any file or even songs, video to iPhone from your computer over Wi-Fi with utmost ease. I can send free SMS to many people around the US for free. These SMS wont be counted against your plan.
I am not the only one who is lucky with MacBook many of the managers are having MACS . And Mac has always been favorite to hollywood. Watch any “in the making” video you will see all the works are done on Mac.
For iPhone even 8GB is more than enough coz you can access 20GB idisk from anywhere. You can access your computer from anywhere anytime. You have many online streaming music that works only with Wi-Fi (so Storm wont have that) so you dont need to fill this up with songs and video. You find Wi-Fi in office, any hotel or restaurant or even rest areas. I alwways have access to Wi-Fi I always have access to all my computers and wi fi disk from my iPhone.
At my home many things are controlled by Wi-Fi. I have surveillance camera at front door and backyard I have Wi-Fi speakers I can control all these from my iPhone.
The great thing is I can stream file from an Airplane also not only that I can see whats happening in my business while flying.
These are the things that Storm cant even think of like Hyundai can never think of the features,speed, performance and luxury that BMW offers.
And you own Z8 so congratulation It’s my dream car I own BM but not Z8.

11-21, encountered too many problems
with it VZW gave me a new replacement
with a new firmware .75 but problem
remains. Installed firmware .83 problem
still exist. VZW staff told me to keep the
phone RAIN till 1-15-08 and if im not
satisfied, i can return it that day. Cant wait,
returned the phone and bought an IPHONE
VZW SUCKS THEY CHARGED ME $35
re-stocking fee for a LEMON PHONE.

People who think Wi-Fi is just another way of connecting to internet, must be backward in technology or they are from Afghanistan or Pakistan where there is no hot spot whatsoever. In USA you find Wi-Fi everywhere and VoIP calls cant be made without Wi-Fi. VoIP is need of the day for International calls. Without Wi-Fi you cant control speakers ,printers, gaming gears, surveillance camera ,webcam and many other stuff.
But dumb Blackberry thinks Wi-Fi is just an option to any other internet connectivity.
Today all gadgets,official equipment and gears of games,home theater, projector,printers, security cameras in house, office and business enterprises can be monitored and controlled through Wi-Fi.
I control 9 speakers, security camera, my desktop, laptop computer everything from my iPhone. Storm can do it even in its dream Storm is just a cheesy phone with jagged, choppy , slow and pokey touch screen.
Its so funny that Storm has some crappy , old school, rotten and stale app in its app store. Are they not ashamed of themselves. Look at Apple’s app store you will find 10,000 wonderful apps.
You can access to all your documents, which is on your computer, from anywhere in the US. You cannot only view them you can even edit them and then send back to computer or get them printed out. The spreadsheet on iPhone has all the simple and complex formulas and it can be exported to many formats.
You can make Keynote presentation with slides right on iPhone and connect to projector and give the presentation.
iPhone is a complete PDA.
You can play virtual golf on iPhone.You swing the phone as you would swing a Golf bat and the ball will be flying on your computer. It has taken video game to a new level.
And asphalt 4, Brother in Arms, Heros of Sparta,Ferrari all are console like games.
You can search anything by Voice command. If you like something on the web take the screen shot and add them into your presentation for reference.
It seems Storm developer, engineers, and designers went 10 years back in time and made Storm with contemporary technology thats why they think MMS is a big thing. Hey you moron grow up iPhone has many stunning feature that you cant even imagine.
Removable battery ? what for? We iPhone user never need to remove battery. You guys need to do it everyday thats why you have given this ask calling it a feature. Do you guys understand what is “feature”. Do you guys know what is difference between “feature, Advantage and Benefit”?
Verdict is out only 33% people are satisfied with Storm
77% people are fully satisfied with iPhone which is highest of all time for a phone.
I just wanted to state i love blackberry but hands down i would rather buy an iphone. The only thing is that AT&T hands down sucks and so do their plans. I have done my homework and found out that verizon wireless owns 55% out of 100 of vodafone which means better connection and no roaming charges for verizon users. AT&T has some coverage area in europe not as great. I have spoken to one of apple store owners in new york and has explained to me some reasons for their really bad dropped calls i wasnt buying it. The only reason AT&T has any customers is because of the iphone. If the iphone and verizon were to pair up the iphone would be the best phone out there with the best company. Just to let you geeks know verizon wireless has plans of moving from 3G to 4G by the end of this year AT&T has not yet anounced any future plans. Which means AT&T could care less of your service. I admit im no business person i ocasionaly would use my iphone (if i had one) to change music in fancy hotel suites thats why god gave me legs and that is one reason people are lazy and obese because they depend on technology to do everything for them do you really expect the iphone to exercise for you to? Im a student and i just you my phone for my msn email text messages and web browsing i really dont need none of exagerated stuff that the iphone offers since i wont use all the stuff i think the storm is a good phone and im planning to buy one this month and with verizons network expecially now that they merge with alltel i know im getting the best that im paying for. But still would rather have the iphone.
