Sony PS3 Graphics Chip for PCs from Leadtek
Filed under: Gaming, PC Games, Sony Playstation 3

Leadtek has announced that it will be selling its first PC graphics card which will use the same technology as the Cell Broadband Engine microprocessor which powers the Sony Playstation 3 console.
The WinFast PxVC1100 will be released on November 19th and will be available from Japan’s Akihabara electronics district for around Y29, 800 (£199). The SpursEngine this new card uses is slightly different to the Cell that the PS3 uses as the SpursEngine will contain four ‘Synergistic Processing Elements’’ cores, compared to eight which the PS3’s Cell uses.
Within the chip itself is a hardware encoder and decoder for MPEG4 AVC/H.264 and MPEG2 video and
its designed to be used as a co-processor for handling real-time HD graphics processing along with other tasks.
