First Impressions: Call of Duty 5 World At War PS3

This is our first impressions of Call of Duty 5 World At War on the Sony PS3; the game is due for release this Friday (Nov 14) in the UK and yesterday (Nov 11) in the U.S.

After really enjoying Call of Duty 4 we expect great things from this latest version that takes a step back in time from modern warfare to World War 2. The introduction of a co-op campaign mode is welcomed with open arms and being able to play up to four players online sounds really cool.

Once you start COD5 it will take you through a little history lesson of WWII and how gruesome it was, you are then thrown into the story.

Vibration on the Sony PS3’s DualShock3 controller is instantly noticeable and adds to the feel of gameplay. The controls are simple and follow on from most Call of Duty games, allowing you to get straight into the gameplay without thinking much.

Starting with a pistol in the campaign game is nothing impressive, but within 10 seconds finding a M1 Garand on the ground you feel the ease of shooting enemies at long distance. The sound of the gun is sweet in Call of Duty 5 and you will be reminded constantly of DualShock thanks to the good vibrations.

Thinking back when it was a disappointment for COD5 to be World War 2 and not modern warfare seems a little blinded now, as this game is far from a disappointment.

The action in campaign mode is hot right of the mark and the all important WW2 weapons are very impressive, moving from single shot rifles to Type 100 and Thompson machine guns in minutes of gameplay starting is a real treat. These WW2 guns are great fun and feel good.

Our first impressions of COD5 are good and it looks like this new version can be all that COD4 was and more. If it at least equals COD4 then this game will be a best seller.

Check back again when we have a more detailed look. If you have played Call of Duty: World at War then leave a comment with your first thoughts.

I thought this games graphics, storyline, weapons, and perks were amazing. Nazi Zombies is not what you would expect from Call of Duty but it is a really good extra. The online is the best I dont even play story mode any more.
