Dell’s self-encrypting laptops
By: Peter Chubb | November 10, 2008 | Leave a CommentDell have announced that they are to start offering Seagate Technology LLC’s, these are self-encrypting hard drives, and will be made available for their Latitude laptops, OptiPlex desktops and their Precision Mobile Workstations.
This is being taken as a security measure, in case the machines are stolen. Seagate have also made an announcement that they have begun to ship their 320GB and 500GB self-encrypting disk drives to all laptop manufactures around the world.
It was about a year and a half ago when Seagate shipped their first 160GB, self-encrypting drive, and was only made available to a handful of resellers. This is now the first general release of these hard drives, both of which have a much higher storage capacity than before.
