Cardiac Equipment Affected by MP3 Player Headphones
By: Peter Chubb | November 10, 2008 | Leave a CommentA week does not go by without a group of researchers putting the fear into people about how harmful some of our everyday technology can be. The latest is from a group of U.S. researchers, who have informed the American Heart Association, that MP3 players and headphones might have an effect on cardiac equipment.
They report that devices such as implantable defibrillators and pacemakers might have their normal operation affected when in close proximity to an MP3 player or headphones. This study goes against a previous one, where it had been found that MP3 players did not interfere with cardiac equipment.
The report says that the reason why headphones interfere with cardiac equipment is because of the strong magnets inside. It was found that if the headphones were placed 1.2 inches from cardiac equipment, then it would cause interference.
