Judge orders Apple’s Mark Papermaster to cease employment

Mark Papermaser has been told by a District Court judge in New York to cease his employment with Apple, as he could be violating an agreement with IBM, his former employer. Papermaster’s new job with Apple was announced on Tuesday, where he would head up the engineering team for the iPod and iPhone.

Federal District Judge Kenneth Karas told papermaster to “immediately cease his employment with Apple Inc until further order of this court.” Mark Papermaster was with IMB for 25 years, so came as a shock when he decided to leave and take up the new position with Apple.

When Papermaser parted company with IBM, he had agreed not to work with any of IBM’s competitor’s for a year. Any objections to this court order could be submitted by Tuesday, with a hearing set for November 18.
