Microsoft developers are working on way to put a halt to Windows carbon footprint, and they will make a start on Windows 7, which is due for release in 2010. The new OS is rumored to have a quicker boot time, as well as offering greater reliability. Ideal for netbooks.
Microsoft are also working on more efficient memory usage on Windows 7, all this will help to increase battery time, which means less time between charges. Microsoft also have a plan to make sure that Windows 7 is able to run on notebooks or netbooks which have an Atom dual-core 1.6 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 16GB solid state drive.
Normally a system like that would struggle to run Vista, as it is too much of a strain on the system. Windows 7 should be able to run at full without the need to strip the OS down on netbooks. Microsoft knows how important the netbook market is, so making sure that their new OS will run on them.
