All reviews are biased in one way or another. It’s hard to be.

I am sure that GoW2 is a great and it should get high scores.

I think that ROFM2 should also get equally as high scores because of the great advancements made in the game.

Compare GoW1 vs GoW2 and RFOM1 vs RFOM2. Which has made the most improvement.

The metascore should be also be based on this FACT. So RFOM2 should be getting higher scores because of this FACT.

I own both consoles (all 3 infact), I really hyped about what I saw in the Resiance 2 online beta.

Resistance 2 really does offer new experiences, Gears 2 is more of the same that was Gears 1.

VinTheDean – Games are not based on how much they are improved, if this was the case a company could make a real howler of a game and then make a half decent one and get game of the year, your theory doesn’t work i’m afraid!

Also, when GOW 1 dropped it was new and fresh and something that no one had seen before in a game, with no new console to play with Epic could not deliver the same impact but instead, build on what was already a SOLID base. This, they have done and this is why the reviews have been higher this time around than the last GOW.

Whats the point in trying to have a debate about about two games that arent both out yet? PS3 fanboys are gonna say Resistance 2 is much better, 360 fanboys are gonna say GOW 2 is much better and those of us that have both consoles haven’t had the chance to play them both anyway.

As has already been said by Gareth, if you go to Metacritic where they compile an average taken from multiple review scores they have,
Gears of War 2 – 94%
Resistance 2 – 89%

Until unbiased multi console owners have had the chance to play them, there is no better way to compare them than something like Metacritic, on the other hand if it was your intention to provoke a totally biased fanboy flame war to increase the traffic on this site…

What I was trying to say is say that the improvements made to sequels to account SOME towards the rating.

I agree that improvements should not be the only item. There is gameplay, grahics, etc.

I know that both games are great. But my problem is, why GOW is getting better reviews when ROFM2 has made such a huge improvements over the first one. Where as GOW2 gave you new scenery, new mode, and new fatility moves.

RFOM2 pushed the envelope with 60 Player online, and 8 player online co-op MMRPG style.

What I am saying that not enough credit is being given to RFOM2.

why do people compare these games, because they are both different genre of game, gears being a thrid person shooter with cover systems and resistance being a more old schooly fps.
the video compares graphics and online play, well they are going to be different because gears is ment to be tactical with its play (but occasionally happens this way online) and as i said before resistance is more the classic fps game and will be more of your run and gun fps online game.

both games are good and you cant compare them because of there different genres, but most people do because they are fanboy/girl to a certain console. (yh girls play games lol) i have both consoles and deffo will be getting both games as i loved the previous editions of these games.

i will say to anyone who has either ps3 only to get resistance or anyone who has xbox 360 only to get gears 2.

But these are two flagships for each console for “hardcore” gamers. They are also exclusive to each console. They are released the same week. They are both the second in their own series.

i think its obvious rs2 is the better game,graphics r same on both games but the story line n content blows gow2 out the water,the godzilla level and freeonline play just goes even further to destroy gow2.the 360 has hit its limit in terms of power thats why they couldn`t fit anymore game on to dvd9 discs for gow2.

It was exactly the same when resistance 1 was realeased and gears 1 was realeased all i herd (and this was mostly on xbox live) is gears is better than resistance and when i asked them if they had played the other game most of the time all i got is “NO why would i its on an insuperior console” that is all that most people with one console seem to do they just ignore the rest of the competition and big up their own and abuse the other consoles when they havent used/played it.

its hard to compare consoles as well now as most third party developers bring out games and they look exactly the same for each console (mirrors edge being a good example). both of the demos i downloaded look exactly the same.

It’s been proven that Metacritic is a flawed system. Fanboys flood the vote tally and stuff the boxes. Xbots recently did this with LBP. The two main reasons why Resistance 2 is better are the online portion dwarfs GOW. Also GOW has a mediocre story, cheesy dialogue, and characters that you never really connect with.

as a truly gamer i can tell you that some of my all time favorites games werent joy at first, dont like them, it was just after a second try that started enjoying them, and i still play them with joy.
on the other side, i can also tell you that many games that liked at first when to oblivion.

It doesn’t really matter what innovations a game made on the previous version, what really matters is what the game has to offer me or you as a gamer. Would you say the same thing if a “NEW” version of pong were to come out with power ups and a high score? It has made advancements on the previous version, didn’t it? Other games have made similiar advancements years ago? That doesn’t really matter though because this game did it now… right? NO!!!

Resistance is a good game I’m sure, but you can’t say it deserves higher marks because it did things a little differently than the previous version. I havn’t played Gears of War 2 or Resistance 2 but I will when I can afford to purchase them, I will but until then, I’ll hold my judgement and read the reviews. And not just the ones from PSM or OXM rather, I’ll read many reviews from different sources, kind of like metacritic. One review may be biased, but if you compile all of the scores, you’ll see something closer to the truth.

Individual consumers can only crank up the user rating on metacritic, they can’t touch the Pro review scores. If you don’t trust the gamers that stick with the reviewers. Peronally, I stick with the reviewers and glance at the users score merely out of interest. Flawed? yes! Then again, So is every other system of a similar nature.

@ every one who has gone referenced metacritic you guys really need to think a little hardwer resistance 2 score is based on 13 reviews gears of war 2 is based on 25. any one who know simple math will understand why that is not a valid reference.

actually plenty of people have played rs2 on all the beta`s. they all love it,rs2 is the better game by far but gow2 will sell more due to the 360install base,gow2 would be crushed in sales if the ps3 was priced the same as the 360 lets be clear about that.

the monster battles and scale is a totally new experience
with an 8 player co – op and seperate storyline, 3 classes and randomized geometry and enemy AI
mobile phone headset quality
60 players online 72 maps skirmish mode ( like 15 diffrent objectives in one )
awsome weapons that are used for a purpose
theres so much more and gameplay wise its awsome
so is gears but its not up to the standard gears has horde mode witch looks pretty awsome!
but as the reviews say there are faults in the AI
the executions are pretty awsome but seriously after 2 weeks it will just be a thing like yeah gotta finish him.. boom hes down bla bla..sajme ol’ same old.

Before I bought my PS3, I played gears of war. I didn’t like it. I played Resistance at my friends house. I liked it. I played Halo, didn’t like it. So when the money came to buy a next-gen system, I figured since I liked the games on this system more, then I’ll buy it. Simple as that.

Does that make GOW a bad game?
No. It was just personal preference.

If you can’t actually acknowledge that GOW was something new at the time then you don’t know nothing. How many other games have evolved from the same cover system ? do some research and maybe read some other reviews from other consoles you idiot. Graphics wise, GOW still beats games that are even being produced for 2009.

I’m sure RFOM is a good game, in fact from the reviews i have seen it looks to be a contender for game of the year however if you are going to compare these 2 games then you have to compare the reviewers scores

They both look like excellent games. Obviously I haven’t played them both yet but I have seen lots of gameplay video footage and screenshots, so I will have to go by those.
There are a couple of things which strike me about GOW2. The first is that moving your character around seems a little slow. I am not sure if there is a way to run quicker but all the footage I have seem makes it look like all the armour you are wearing is weighing you down and making movement a bit sluggish. This was something in the first game too, especially if you return to GOW after playing something like COD4. It can feel like you are dragging your feet. The second point is that it looks remarkably like Unreal Tournament 3. I am guessing they are using the same engine but do they really need to make the characters and scenery look so similar? There are parts which make it look like it could almost be a mod for UT3!
I was a big fan of Resistance, mostly because of the online play. Personally I think the whole online package worked very well, including the lobby system and getting the balance between the two races just right. Personally, I cannot wait to try out the 60 player matches in RFoM2. It should be something very special.

I own a PS3 and love the machine, but honestly Gears of War 1 was better than Resistance fall of man, and Gears 2 will be better than Resistance 2.

anyways i have all 3 systems, i just got resistance 2 yesterday, waited for my wife to fall asleep to play it at 11pm. WOW- what an awesome game! Before i knew it, 3am came. Story mode is intensely insane and extremely fun. Graphics are incredibly superior from the first one. And online – well it’s a different story and makes the game 20x more fun. PS3 owners – ITS A MUST BUY! Xbox 360 owners who cant afford a ps3, why comment? Seriously… you havent played the game. I dont get it.

Nov 7th – I’ll be getting GOW2 regardless, i loved the first one (although i forgot the ending) so it’s a no brainer. Plus halo 3 is the only game i’ve bought for my xbox so i need to expand my library.

Well if you read the reviews on Metacritic you will realize that Gears 2 is just a great game all around and the High Score of 94 score shows that. When you read the R2 reviews there is a pattern of not having co-op on the campaign and that the graphics a a little lacking which lands it at 89 on Metacritic.

You may have a point but then there is the overwhelming 100 scores given by 6 reviewers on Metacritic that R2 does not receive. The highest score is 96 by one reviewer for R2

I also wanted to add that I did not see any Midnight madness sales for R2 but on Friday at Midnight all around the world there will be Madness everywhere when Gears 2 hits. I think that says a lot no matter what score anyone wants to post.

First of all, GOW2 is the cream of the crop, Resistance 2 is in the minor leagues compared to it. It doesn’t mean that Resistance 2 is horrible. I’ve been sitting on the fence to buy a PS3 but no exclusive game is special enough to warrant a purchase. However, IF I gave in and bought a PS3, Resistance 2 would be the game that would do it for me.

With that said, the reviews for Resistance 2 are rather generous, especially when diehard Sony fans have nothing else to rally behind but the 60 player online. To me that’s a cop out. It’s laziness on the developer’s part to rely on the players to play with each other to have fun. The FPS genre is a crowded one, nothing makes Resistance 2 stand out. Graphics isn’t everything, but Resistance 2′s graphics aren’t even better than the first Gears of War, which came out 2 years ago. Sony fans can no longer sing the same song that goes something like, “Wait till the developers learn how to program for the PS3.” It’s been two years and for what supposedly is the most powerful console on the market, its games are embarrassingly underwhelming.

Midnight items are done by the developers/console makers for MARKETING purposes. that is M$ shelling out more money for that to happen.

The graphics have not changed AT ALL from GOW1 to GOW2. They may have changed the color palette but that is it.

Fall of mans 60 player online… Sounds like fun if the maps are big enough for the teams to get their act together. To many players on a small map sucks because its nothing but a spray and gernade fest… spawn and die. What fun is there crossing the street when 25 guns are pointing at you? Still if it has dynamic join or quit and is lag free with big maps.. sounds like fun. I cant imagine the wait for 59 people to ready up…. or waiting 15 minutes to start for the server to quit. But most important is it fun to play and not just watch.

Also multiplayers big problem is stupid gamers.. with 60 players the stupid per square inch factor goes way up. Can you even talk with your team with 30 morons screaming into the mic? My guess is the games that hold 20 or 30 players will be the ones that are more playable.

On Metacritic, there’s a review from Variety that is totally bias and pulled down the scores of the overall ratings of R2. Variety is also said to be a partner of Microsoft.

I’ve got both consoles. I’ve got both games. Both are good. But I prefer GoW2.
Its a matter of personal preference.

Strange thing is, my gaming preference always seems to favor the 360 games atm. I’ve got like 50 360 games and about 6 PS3 games. Already sold alot of my PS3 games, as I found most of them just mediocre.

P.S. I own several games (farcry 2, cod 4 , cod 5) for both consoles. And as far as I can tell, graphicswise the 360 can easily keep up with the PS3 so far.

As of right now, I think that the 360 is better because it has been out longer and it is easier to develop games, so graphics can be adjusted more easily. However, once the programmers master the PS3′s extremely fast processor and use the Blu-Rays capacity for information, Sony will run the market because Xbox has a graphical peak that is being reached. However, BioSchmuck, people like you PISS ME OFF and remind me why I didn’t buy a 360, because there are more people that have it and the higher chance that we will find people that are idiots, douchbags, and cheap fanboys. the 360 is better now but the ps3 will surpass it. I own a 360 but look at the past. Remember what happened to the xbox and ps2. The xbox seemed better but once ps2 started getting titles like gta, mgs,gow, and dmc it easily beat the xbox. History is sure to repeat with gow 3 comming out. As for comparing the two games, now that they are out I’d have to go with gow2. I played both games and gears just seemed more up to date. Probably beacause rfom2 is meant to be an old school fps.

Well I would love to play any game with good graphics. I am sad that I can’t be playing Gears2 since I own a PS3. But not sad as I have system that has produced a masterpiece like MGS4. The difference between the systems is lesser but the Blue Ray means developers can go for next gen games with HD format easily. So that’s why I predict PS3 exclusives coming that will blow few other consoles out of its way.(fear whether 360 is among them)

Xbox was launched in 2002 early…halo was a successful defining title…many more games were added to the library…But PS2 hit back with exclusives like GTA ,GOW..that made it to the top of previous console generation. Xbox just got wiped off…(fear the same with Xbox 360 struggling with DVD9 or failed format HD DVD add on-the cause for decline-has to rely on xbox live)

I’m neutral in this whole debate… but using Google, I looked them up to see which game had more news related stories to see which one had the bigger buzz.

THE GRAPHICS IN GEARS 2 ARE THE BEST IVE EVER SEEN AND IS A HUGE IMPROVEMENT TO THE GRAPHICS IN GEARS 1 THANKS TO THE BREAKTHROUGHS IN THE UNREAL ENGINE 3 WHICH IS THE BEST GAME ENGINE, MOST OF THE PS3 GAMES USE IT, SO WHILE RESISTANCE 2 IS STILL BEING COMPARED TO GEARS 1 GEARS 2 IS RUNNING ON THE UNREAL 3.5 ENGINE WHICH IS TRULY A NEXT GENERATION EXPERIENCE.

I still don’t understand why gears2 is being compared to resistance2. Both games are different in most aspects. Well taking the graphics gears2 owns Resistance but in terms of content the latter is more.

And blue ray which obviously is a turn off over DVD 9 or DVD-DL now for most will be instrumental for the PS3 exclusives peeking up around the period 2009 late that will mark the truimphant sales figure shootups. Microsoft shall be doing something with xbox 720 a bit earlier than they should to revert market demands.

Idc how late I am on this thread nor how old it is right now. If I had to pick one it would be Resistance 2, imo GoW2 is pretty much the same and linear to GoW (run, duck, fire, repeat). There isn’t too much of difference in GoW and GoW2 for me. I really despised GoW at first because it just didn’t appeal to me and GoW2 changed my mind after I had played it. Overall I would rather be playing Resistance 2 mostly because I’m a PS3 person. The exclusives on a 360 don’t appeal to me as much as LBP, MGS4, and Resistance do. Another thing, we should just enjoy the systems we like and whatever we have instead of bashing other systems, I am entitled to my opinions and you are entitled to yours. If anyone attempts a counter statement to what I just said about enjoying what we like instead of bashing then you are a freaking douche for not getting it through your thick skull.

resistance 2 simply because it is better. end of what really ticks me off is that xbox 360 fan boys always are so prejudice atleest ps3 games have a story instead xbox games just being people who want kill another race, the point of everything is that it has a story and not being funny but GOW does not and i have all three consoles well now i have 2 because my xbox broke down 4 the 5th time and ive had ps3 and wii for 4 year only had xbox 2 yrs i now i will never be buying unreliable noisy xbox again.
