Verizon LG VX9600 Phenom, Clip or Versa Update

By: Daniel Chubb | November 4, 2008 | 16 Comments

It looks like Engadget has been tipped off about an upcoming cell phone from LG named the “LG VX9600”, and with a VX it’s surely going to be with Verizon.

This phone was sent to the FCC by LG a while ago in the name of VX9600, the device is rumored to have the name choices of LG Phenom, Clip or Versa. Which do you like more?

What makes this phone really interesting is the rumored specs, they include a detachable keyboard, game pad, detachable stereo speakers, a 3-inch touchscreen, and even a detachable Internet module that sports WiFi built-in. Rumor has the LG VX9600 for a November launch if that can be believed. We will update you as we get more.

I actually got to touch one of these today, and I’m super-impressed. It will be called the Versa.
I didn’t get to see the game pad, just the detachable keyboard and backplate.
the detachable keyboard is a stampled leather case that displays the time/date on a small lcd when closed. When open, it gives a really nice, easy-to-use full qwerty keyboard.
When you detach the keyboard module you have a slick, full touchscreen phone with an incredibly smooth touch, and an amazingly fast accelerometer. I think this phone, with it’s versatility, will be very hard to beat in the non-smartphone market.

I was too distracted playing accelerometer driven games to be sure I heard this correctly, but I would swear that the LG guy said it will be able to use both Wireless Sync and sync with outlook. As I said, I cannot promise i heard this correctly. I was enraptured by games they had loaded.

It’s supposed to go on sale at the end of February.

That’s awesome, I hope 2/22 is really the date because I’m up for an upgrade on 2/26! I’m most curious about how similar it is to the Dare…if it’s basically the Dare with an attachable qwerty, I am so excited. I just hope it looks really slick without a module on it, since it appears to be kind of ugly with that dinosaur-skin stuff.

ahhahhaa, it really is ugly with the module but maybe eventually they’ll come out with replacement one :D
it’s gonna be such a cool phone
    cant wait :]

I see a lot of similarities between the LG Versa and an iPhone, but I must say I love the idea behind a detachable QWERTY keyboard. My current Verizon Wireless phone has a QWERTY keyboard which I have grown to love so it’s something I would look for in another phone. Ironically, the phone I have is also an LG phone so it might be time for a trade-in.

I bought this phone on the 5th and since then i have had it replaced 4 times. All of the phones have had a problem with freezing and just crashing to wear I can’t even turn the phone on. That is the problem with first generation phones. They don’t have any software to ix the problem so they just have to replace it. I do like the touch screen phone with attachable keyboard and don’t want another phone. So I put up with it for right now.

phones out! and its awesome just got it today.

I got this phone on the 5th of March and love it. I am fourteen years old, but this phone is really great for anyone! If you have or had an itouch or something you will quickly find out that the touch screen is not as sensitive as the itouch. It comes with a stylus too. When texting if you turn it sideways the touchable qwerty pad appears but unitl you are used to the touch screen i reccommend using the detachable qwerty key pad. Have any questions about this phone? Just email me at hlbrk152@aol.com Great phone just like the dare with a keypad.

So I take it we need to buy the insurance, I know silly question. Is anyone else having issues with the phone? Issues that would stop me from buying it.

I too am going back today for a 4th phone (in less than 3 weeks)…the first 2 had issues with freezing and the only way to fix it is by taking battery out…this current phone is having web browsing and video watching issues (very slow, unresponsive, and choppy). Neat gadgetry but too few applications available and too many require a monthly subscription instead of an unlimited purchase. I have premium plan and was told could get ESPN-MVP with this phone but cannot. Glad to hear I’m not the only one having problems…according to my local Verizon store, I am the only one having issues with this phone.

Love the phone, hate the bugs!
