Has the Xbox 360 Price Cut Killed the Sony PS3?

Both Sony and Microsoft are both entering the crucial times when it comes to the sales of their Xbox 360 and PS3 games consoles. It looks as though Sony have already lost the battle before it has begun in the Japanese market, as sales of the Xbox 360 are far greater than that of the PlayStation 3.
There are a number of factors to this, and the major one has to be the constant price cuts of the Xbox 360. However no matter how well the sales of Microsoft’s console are doing, it is still behind the sales figures of the Nintendo Wii and DS, as well as the Sony PSP.
There are those out there who would have thought that the Sony PS3 would now have higher sales, one because the format war with HD DVD and Blu-ray is now over, with Blu-ray being the victor. Sony is at fault, as they still refuse to offer any price cuts. When they do offer price cuts they reduce hardware features, such as less storage on the hard drive and removing USB ports. Sony had better take a long hard look at their business plan for the holiday season, if they hope to close the gap between them and the Xbox 360.

When Xbox reaches 1 million units in Japan, wake me up.
The xbox has been out for three (3) years and the PS3 two (2) years. That is why PS3 will not drop the price.
Price is the only reason Xbox has regained momentum.
Xbox might sell more this christmas. I admit that. But the PS3 will still sell a few million worldwide.
I know a lot of people will getting their first or second one as a family gift this holiday season.
the xbox 360 killed himself, or suicide at launch, with all the RROD thing…
the price cuts are actually microsoft trying to revive it from coma…
for the record i actually owned a xbox 360 for a few weeks back in 2006, but the boring games, the fear it suddenly die and specially the damn noise made me sell it….
all microbrains fanboys can scream all over the web the “excellent support from microsoft and the extended protection” it will never overshadow the fact that microsoft sold faulty consoles to us, and they know it.
Bigd, Wake up. I’m pretty sure the 360 has won September and October, and its 7 weeks running. What it shows is that the 360 actually stands a chance in PS3’s home territory. This is a big deal.
We shall see how well the PS3 does with the walmart shoppers over the holiday season, like it or not, that is where the battle wil be won.
@SteveP
The majority of the gaming consoles and assecories are sold at Best Buy and Gamestops due to the formats of the stores and Gamestop is the only one with exclusive preorder deals like free hat or like with fallout 3 the lunch box. Now with that said MS did sell faulted equipment but they sold alot of it too much to make a recall and way too much to reinburst people thats why they gave out the 3 yr warranty. PS3 has the difficulty of games and price. Games that are great and exclusive too the system are far and few. They push back titles not by a month or two but by years or they cann good ideas(Killzone2,Home,8Days). Now the price $500 for a system that doesn’t even play the PS1 or PS2 games. If you have got one at luanch then your screwed out your older games. Before anybody goes spouting of I a “fanboy” of any console I have them both since they both came out and I play them both alot but I don’t choose one over the other cause why should I when I can have them both kind like finding out your gf is bi. You don’t hate her you invite her cute friends over and party.
People complain about the PS3’s price compared to that of the Xbox. However when you PAY for the “extras” you need to to bring the Xbox up-to-spec with the PS3 (including the cost of Xbox Live), you soon realise the inherent value of the PS3.
For what you get, the PS3 is cheap. Unfortunately some people have no concept of value for money. If you buy something at a price equal or cheaper than the cost of production, then it is a bargain, and SONY are a long way from turning massive profits on the PS3.
The Xbox does what it was built for well…when it’s working (?). The PS3 also performs well, but with the advantage of a huge PS2 base…most of which will ( probably ) move to the PS3 eventually.
Xbox hasn’t and won’t “kill” the PS3.
Cheap isn’t better…it’s cheaper! Is a Ford better than a Ferrari?…no, it’s cheaper! You get what you pay for whether it’s a games console or dinner.
just to clear things up a Ferrari is definitely better than a Ford hands down.
You’ve got to be kidding. PS3 sales are a little behind the 360 right now but not by much. Sony has sold so many PS3’s in Japan that Microsoft will never catch up. Stop with this silly nonsense. Are you being paid by Microsoft to write this crap?
The fact that the Xbox is ever ahead of the PS3 in japan should scare the crap out of Sony.MS might have blown it with hardware probs but the amount of qaulity games makes it a really good system for the price.
Great article,
PS 3 can’t beat 360 without an effectieve price cut. Sony charges €399 for 80 gb in Europe. You can buy a lot of things with that money rather than paying it for a console. I’ll buy a 360 and with the rest of the money;
” ” ” CRACK WHORE PARTYYYY ” ” ”
Peace
The problem with PS3’s slow trend is a fundamental one: lack of BC.
Once you hooked up a PS2 with a HDTV you will see the video quality is really unacceptable and make the game unplayable. Do you want to throw away your PS2 games collection? For me, I prefer to be able to play them on my PS3. However the current models are trimmed the feature.
Until they put BC (better with the hardware one) back in the console again, I will NOT buy the PS3.
