RSA puts pressure on Sinowal Trojan
By: Peter Chubb | November 1, 2008 | Leave a CommentA number of financial institutions have been hit by Sinowal Trojan, which has now caused the RSA FraudAction Research Laboratory to intervene and put pressure on the people behind it. The laboratory has said that this Trojan which has a number of other names, Torpig and Mebroot has stolen the login credentials of around 500,000 accounts.
These accounts range from online bank accounts to credit and debit cards, which have been collected up over the past three years. They have also stolen other information, like emails and FTP accounts from a number of websites.
The RSA is now putting on the pressure, as they now know more about the source of Sinowal. The information that has come to light is that the Trojan had strong ties with the Russian Business Network cybercriminal gang, although there are no longer any ties with them.
