Chevrolet Volt E-Flex to get Star Trek sound effects

There is no denying that electric and hybrid vehicles are a great advancement for vehicles of today, as they are better for the environment. There is one problem with this vehicle though, when they are being driven around town, they hardly make any noise.

This is a safety concern, more so for blind people as they cannot hear when one of these vehicles is coming. GM might have found the solution to this problem, and are now thinking of adding a Star Trek soundtrack to their Chevrolet Volt, part of the E-Flex range.

Frank Weber, E-Flex vehicle line executive, has said that he was thinking of adding the sound effects of the transporters or maybe the hissing of the doors opening. I am not too sure on this idea, and they would need to get a license for the sound effect, which I doubt they will get.

  1. Bob Wilson says:

Please tell us how many blind have been killed by silent hybrid electrics?

How about how many blind have been hospitalized from silent cars?

If the reporter had done a simple Lexus-Nexus or other search he would have discovered there are not accident statistics that show hybrids are dangerous. There is a lot of FUD and inflated claims but the claimed hazard is a lie and this blind hazard nonsense.

In June 23, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration held a hearing on this subject and the record is available at: http://www.regulations.gov – search NHTSA-2008-0108-0020 for the opposition research. If you have the time, the transcript is at NHTSA-2008-0108-0023.

The accident data does not show a hybrid car, a silent car hazard, and this is just nonsense. This reporter has been fooled again.
