New Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint run in Web browser
By: Peter Chubb | October 28, 2008 | Leave a CommentMicrosoft have for years questioned the need for Net-based productivity applications, but it now seems that the software giant is embracing it by offering new versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint which can run from a standard browser.
The new web browser-based editing capabilities are now being developed at the same time as the next version of Office, which is just known as Office 14. As yet it is not known when the new version will be released, but there are signs that a beta version will be ready some time in 2009.
Microsoft will offer two ways for the web based Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Consumers will be offered the software via Microsoft’s Office Live Web site; business users will be able to receive it through Microsoft’s SharePoint Server product.
