Windows Azure: Microsoft’s new operating system

Today in Los Angeles, Windows Azure was announced at the 2008 Microsoft Professional Developers Conference. This new online operating system is designed for the increasing amount of Web-based applications.
Developers can build new applications in the cloud and computer users can replicate the same operating system in the cloud. This new web-based OS is a massive extension to Microsoft’s family of Windows platforms.
Although Microsoft announced Windows Azure today, we will have to wait to find out how the company will integrate this web-based solution with Windows 7.
Cloud Computing Explained: Simply put, in the past you have a hard drive and the software runs from this but now Internet connections are more reliable and faster so you can access software as an online service. The software is powered by a network of powerful computer servers that you access over the Internet (The Cloud).

Getting ready for Microsoft’s launch on November 20th, 2009! Should be interesting. Our early testing of Azure has been encouraging in terms of speed and functionality. We are looking forward to seeing some of the applications which will emerge after the launch.
