Sony PS3 2.51 Firmware Update Is Out: not for retail

Sony has done something very strange this time round on their PS3 update. Normally Demonstration Firmware updates come after the retail console update, but this is not the case with Sony PS3 2.51 Firmware Update.
This new firmware update has been released on the demo unit first, so retail owners of the PS3 will have to wait. There are a number of reasons why this could be; one of the most logical would be that there have been a number of conflicts with the recovery menu on the demo units.
Do you think that Sony have made a mistake to launch PS3 2.51 Firmware Update on the demo units first, or is it a good idea to use them as a test first?

Errm, perhaps it’s ONLY a particular issue with demo units, and not retail units…
Fankly who cares, nobody is reporting any specific problems with PS3 firmware 2.50…
2.51 might very well be designed to address issues with demo units only, so it’s not a big deal at all. 2.50 was just released, and it had a number of significant improvements. Using 2.51 for this revision number shows there are no feature changes from 2.50.
Home units may never get 2.51, so there’s really no mistake about how Sony is proceeding with this. It’s really nothing major at all.

i hope the 2.51 fixes my issues coz i amoung lots of ppl had big problems wiv 2.50 ie loads of films were playing in black n white maybe an ntsc/pal bug but its not good enough when ppl like me paid top wack for a “media station” maybe the reason they are now testing firmware on demo units is to make it look like sony have a braincell. sorry if post is lil jibberish am using naff ps3 browser as sony vaio laptop is bust tsk tsk
@ pete - this is what i don’t get yeah, you buy a ps3 then run it on a valve powered TV that can’t even display a 60hz ntsc signal. damn, even the screen i have rigged to my dreamcast which is nearly 10yrs old can display pal/ntsc. even if you don’t want to go HD at least buy a decent 16:9 crt screen from a secondhand electrical shop! they cost next to nothing.
i have had problems from the previous (update 2.50 ) after about 10 days i installed the update my ps3 started freezing when i put in bluray game discs like cod4 or cod5 or any . the game would freeze after around 13mins of play then when i restart the ps3 a disc read error occurs when i put a game back in. Then i wait for 15mins and turn on the ps3. Same thing happens again but all the demos and games i bought for PS store work fine like burnout paradise mk2 and poker. ive tried restoring full system but that didnt works. so if anyone can help that would be awesome my email adress is amritparmar4@hotmail.com or just post a comment.
