Sony PlayStation Home v1.0 for PS3 Closed Beta

Many of those involved in the Sony PlayStation Home closed beta have been a little annoyed with the lack of a date for the next version to hit beta testers. Well now we have some good news for these people.

The PS3 Home v1.0 for PS3 closed beta will be coming in the next few weeks, this may not be an exact date but a moderator on the official European PlayStation forum has confirmed it “will hit the closed beta in the coming weeks”.

He also said that more testers would be involved in the closed beta by invitation over the coming weeks. In early November there will be more Home beta invites available through the online Qcore magazine. If you’re testing Home Beta, how are you finding it?

Well, you asked. And I have little regard for the Sony NDA.

    Home is…. meh.

It feels a bit like a prison. They haven’t fleshed out the mall, so the mall has a handful of test items. All the videos take a while to load, instead of compressing the videos to stream. The game room is kinda nice, but the games really aren’t fully featured enough to weather the hype/expection.

I do feel a preponderance of issues will be fixed before the launch, but this is a make or break point for Sony. It will either be a Sony brand-soaked utopia, or a testament to how little they have gotten done with their time. I’m leaning toward the latter. It’s overhyped, self-important, and contrived. At the core, it really is just a 3D chat room that might as well be called Shill-ville than Home.

But, this is a closed beta after all. They still have time to iron these things out.

people seem to forget that home is not a game. it a place were u can meet new psn player, were u chat, a social place, and this kind of stuff is very popular with outsiders, some chat rooms have over 10million people so this will also be welcome for people who dont feel like playing games, just chat with other ps3 player and that it, or just go outside. home will be welcome unto my ps3 when they nathing else for me to do.

At the end of the day, its a free service, I didnt buy my PS3 for Home, so when it arrives, however much in the future, I will welcome it with open arms. It reassures me that Sony are showing their commitment to the format by investing time and money into a free service, with the hope that it will increase console sales.

It will also be the route of PS4,

    Bring on Home!!!

I’ll swear by the honest truth that Home sounds a whole lot better on paper than it works in practice… just like every 3D chat room before it. I bet Google Lively sounded great on paper.

I know what people want it to be. The truth is that is just isn’t. People hate to hear their hyped darling project is a steamer, and I’m breaking the NDA to tell you that.

Welcome it with open arms, but suffer no delusions that this is revolutionary or a lasting experience. It’s going to get old fast.

It will be in Open BETA just as soon as Sony is ready to deliver the app along with the necessary infrastructure to cope with the demand for the amazing service!!

I must say that I disagree with the above poster.. I speak from my experience as a tester and can honestly say that it is both revolutionary and is a long term experience.

Be patient guys/girls and you will see how amazing HOME is, and will be..

I certainly feel challenged by Home Tester UK. So, let me stop with the negativity and tell you what I think Home should be.

It’s audience is gamers. So, why isn’t gaming the focus?

What Home needs is Sixaxis-driven hoverboard races, bumper car hockey, laser tag. Those kinds of things that will take Home from a sterile soulless prison to a fun diversion worth spending time in. It needs expansions that feature things gamers like to do with friends… not awkwardly sitting on a couch trying to have a conversation. It needs to be gamer focused and not every gamer is a social machine who thinks pool and bowling is fun. Development for Home needs to give gamers control of the environment, not the marketing department. Let gamers design race tracks and laser tag arenas and have companies sponsor those areas.

The framework for Home is there, but it’s a barebones version of what it could be. It should be more “amusement park” and less “living quarters”.

In response to the above, I agree, all of that would be cool, and I think we will eventually get there. However, Sony arent looking to release a final product, this is something that will develope in the coming years through updates, hopefully based on user feedback.

I think, and hope, that if we are still using Home in 3 years time that it will probably unrecongnisable from the launch version. I get the impression that Home will be continuously developed. I am staying optimistic about this exclusive, different, AND FREE!! Product.
