The G1 Phone, BlackBerry Storm or iPhone 3G for Christmas?

The G1 Phone, BlackBerry Storm or iPhone 3G for Christmas?

By: Daniel Chubb | October 25, 2008 | 11 Comments

It’s a real simple decision for some people this Holiday season, and that’s which cell phone would they choose for a gift this Christmas?

Three of the biggest players are the Google G1 Phone (aka T-Mobile G1), the BlackBerry Storm from Research In Motion and the Apple iPhone 3G. These latest phones will update some users to a phone that’s much more than they have ever owned before.

The first phone released this year was the iPhone 3G, this device took the word “Mobile Phone” to a whole new meaning. Owners of this device would much rather call it an iPhone than just a phone, most users make less phone calls than they do play games or listen to music on the iPhone.

The T-Mobile G1 was the second device released out of the three and it firmly takes on the iPhone and promises many advantages of the Open Source Google Android OS. The third phone is the BlackBerry Storm, although this device is not released yet and said to be coming in November, it looks like it will cause a storm.

The decision is as easy as the number of applications. 5500 Apps vs 67 vs 0.

You guys are dumb as ****. THEY ARE PHONES. Not video game consoles, they are phones. If you want a game system buy a psp. And just out of curiosity, how can you say the storm looks worse than the iphone. Only thing that’s really different are the 4 buttons on the bottom front. In my opinion the storm actually looks better than the iphone. Besides, it’s about time for people to freak out for the hot new item and blow some more of their cash. Or maybe they should just wait for that new LG Prada phone that is supposed to be coming out. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they did.

iPhone 3G….. as for what Jackson stated… we are not dumb **** if people want the other phones they are the dumb ***** they are the ones that only want a phone to call because they won’t be able to figure out what all those things are on it and what they do…. and they are not just phones anymore…. what age do you live in? A phone you can just call on… and none of these phones are like that…… people want powerful phones…. phones that do everything a desktop computer can do…. If you want just a phone get a Jitter Bug!

And remember…. who is copying who here…. these other companies copied Apples iPhone so they can hope….. and yes the storm looks worst…. geesh look at the hope screen…. LG Prada… LOL

The iPhone has it hands down……

I work at a Verizon store in NJ and we just finished training for the Storm. We were told first that it would be available Nov 15th, but just yesterday we were informed that it will launch in our stores on November 19th. Best Buy and authorized resellers will have it on the 20th.

The G1 is an atrocity, in terms of design. The UI is cumbersome and uninspiring.

The Blackberry Storm is, in that picture, very similar to the iPhone 3G — but give it a look-over in reviews. It’s actually quite thick — perhaps three iPhones on top of the other.

I wanted to believe in these devices (particularly the G1, as I am a T-Mobile customer), but the truth is, they’re just no in the iPhone 3G’s league. Not in the least.

these phones both look grEAT… BUT I THINK THE IPHONE IS TOO STYLISH TO OVERLOOK. They will both put up a good fight but the iphone will give the final blow.

Goddamn it yall americans, fellow friends, obama haters, the G1 phone is alot better. To start off with, my friends, it has a full QWERTY keyboard which is better than a touch screen keyboard. It also has a GPS unlike the IPhone. It also has 3G like the Iphone except that the T-Mobile 3G system is faster than the Cingular one. Last but not least, this amazing phone has Google applications, which the IPhone doesn’t. Yes, my close friends, it doesn’t have as many apps available as the IPhone 3G…YET. In about one month, it will have almost 2000 apps and games available. In conclusion, the G1 Phone beats the IPhone by a slight but important margin.

P.S: I agree with Jackson’s comment on the fact that phones are not video game console systems.

It really depends on what you want in a Smartphone. The I-Phone has the flashiest, slickest interface and the coolest look to it. It’s thin and refined… it’s a super-polished toy.

The G1 (which I own) is more for the geek crowd. The phone has an open source OS which is an actual platform.. not just a custom made interface for a single device. I think people who have issues with the G1 interface have never used one.. it isn’t as slick as the I-Pod but it is very simple and works well. The design of the G1 is also very nice.. it’s a lot smaller in person than it looks in pictures.. and having a full QWERTY keyboard is a huge bonus for people who like that. Android will be updated next year with an onscreen keyboard as well… so you will have the best of both worlds there.

The Storm sounds like the perfect device for Blackberry users who are jealous of I-Phone owners. It is a Blackberry that was beaten with the ‘cool stuff’ stick. It’s probably the best option for business people. In the long run the G1 will be the most interesting phone to own I believe… the free nature of the OS and the applications which will come out next year… will be more innovate and creative than what’s on the other two phones. There are already some very cool apps on the market place right now.

hi i have been lucky enough two own the iphone and now the storm, yes they are both phones, the iphone is slim, long and i was always worried about the glass on the front, and to be honest after a couple of weeks bored too simple. the storm first day wanted to throw it out of the window, second day the same , two weeks on , i am loving it, download speeds fantastic , keyboard brill as it floats, do not worry about the screen , the more you use it the more features you find, cut and paste is amazing , sound quality is amazing, battery life is getting better, and for me , it is my perfect phone but it takes work to become that. my views from the cold and storm uk, but i hope santa brings you what ever phone you may wish for x
