T-Mobile G1 launch a flop compared to Apple iPhone

When looking over a few websites and watching the news, I can’t help but think that the launch of the T-Mobile G1 was a bit of a flop. The HTC handset is the first to use the Google Android software, and was hyped to be the next big thing, but I would have to say that the Apple iPhone won the first round.

One website, Phones Review said that they did not see people flocking in their thousands to get their hands on the G1, like they did with the iPhone. Phones review reported that some stores only had about 20 people waiting outside, and some did not even have any customers waiting outside at all.

But let us analyze this for a second, T-Mobile were offering the G1 as a pre-order online, which Apple did not do with the iPhone. I have to say that Apple won this battle, because not allowing customers to pre-order the iPhone online, it created a frenzy which was seen outside Apple stores, as people flocked in their thousands.

    WTF?? So what if people didn’t line up outside store fronts for it. Technically speaking they already sold 1.5 million before it even went on sale. I’m dying to get one, but I already ordered it online. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a craze for it, just that people don’t need to freeze their nuts off to get one.
    The only thing thing apple won there (and just slightly) was on hype. Sales easily go to Google on first day sales.
    The First month or two of sales might be different though.

    Original IPhone 500,000 sold on 1st weekend. IPhone 3G 1 Million sold first weekend. G1 1.5 Million pre-orders sold out and not counting how many were sold in the stores on launch day. Remember not everyone likes waiting in line. And the old marketing strategy of only selling a few units to create a want is getting old.

    I call bs guys. T-mobile didn’t sell any 1.5 million G1 phones. Get real.

    The 1.5M figure is from Anders Bylund at MotleyFool. He admits to just guessing, based upon the 500k production figure from HTC for this year. He somehow got that remainder of year production number to mean pre-orders. Nevertheless the source admits it’s unsubstantiated, and T-Mo was interviewed and wouldn’t substantiate it either.

    Folks, i was at the Mall of America, NO ONE WAS THERE!, the guy at the Motly Fool is dead wrong. The way i see it there will be a record number of returns of the android. There is going to be too much LMAO when Android Users show off the new issue to IPHONE toting coworkers.

    in a short period of time the iphone keyboard is mastered, there is no need for the Android at the consumer level. Further since it does not work w/ the hotspot at home its hard to see that the android is FMC ready so why would the enterprise want to bother with it

    Hate to burst most of your bubbles. But the G1 is absolutely amazing. There are many applications that you wouldnt even believe nor will you ever get to play around with because you are iphone users. And you might say that people were lining up at apple stores or whatever but when you think about it, did tmobile broadcast countless number of annoying commercials saying “buy the new isuck, you’re paying 100 dollars more than everyone else for not waiting. YAY SUCKERS!” And tmobile obviously didnt need to broadcast crappy commercials every single commercial break in order to sell their 1.5 million because by word of mouth, the phones popularity spread. Dont get mad because you apple fans dont have the latest phone or a phone with open source platform. Its not googles fault that you’re stuck for two more years in an expense contract with a phone company that, yes i said it, SUCKS!!!!

    Dont be mad at google for your stupidy. Be happy for them. Cuz i sure am. Not to mention i typed this on my g1.

    the G1 is great open source platform, this will open apples iphone users eyes up. i can see hate in u apple lovers dont worry the G1 have answers for u all just google right from ur iphone. cuz with out google there will be 1 less icon that matters on ur iphone device. plus tmobile didnt hate on apple when they choose att to sell there product. iphone users please u have to admit open source will keep rising as apple iphones willnot be able to grow keep making iphone with more and more features but people will not keep buying it cuz it sucks now that the G1 hit the market.

    Judging by the last two posts, the Android phones don’t seem to correct spelling. Good luck with your world domination guys. Linux is taking over the desktop too because open source rulez!! And T-mobile coverage rocks!!

    Finally someone understands what I’m talking about. Thank you Mihavitmalakai101. And to the previous question we do have spell corrections. Whether we use it or not is a complete different subject. But back to the main reason why we are here, the G1 is amazing. Don’t try and dawg on it any of you isuckers. If you didn’t like the G1 you wouldn’t be wasting your time trying to corrupt other peoples minds with your nonsense about the G1 even though you probably haven’t had the chance to even see it for more than 5 minutes.
