Nintendo Wii firmware update makes changes to shop

By: Peter Chubb | October 23, 2008 | 5 Comments

There is a new Nintendo Wii firmware update, so if that blue light is flashing best to get it updated. The new firmware makes changes to the Wii Shop, not sure if there are any other changes.

Wii Points will now be called Nintendo Points, but we already knew this as Nintendo had already announced the news when the DSi had been revealed. So what changes have been made to the Nintendo Wii Shop?

The icons have now changed, there are now new prompts, this is for when you confirm that you have the controllers before you purchase something from the store. This is all that seem different with the new firmware.

I ran the update this morning and I still have Wii Points, not Nintendo Points, on the Wii shop channel. Anyone else have this problem?

The update also makes the shop much much faster! Only the japanese wii shop has Nintendo points as the DSI is launching there soon. when the DSi Lanunches in other territories then wii points will become Nintendo points

took my lad to get some wii points , got home and found we had an update.since performing the update the shop channel will not connect. all other channels are fine [ weather , internet and news ]. so now we have 4000 points that we cant use until nintendo fixes this problem. when you do get hold of nintendo to ask about this they make you feel like its your own fault.

Since setting up a wireless network connection and doing this upgrade (to version 3.3U), the power LED on my Wii no longer turns red when I turn off the unit using either the remote or the main button. It stays green at all times, even though the screen blanks and my TV thinks it has no signal.

Before doing this upgrade, the power LED always was green when the unit was ON and red when the unit was OFF.

Is this a problem? Is the unit really on?
