IMOVIO iKIT: Linux not Knight Rider

By: Peter Chubb | October 21, 2008 | Leave a Comment

The IMOVIO iKIT has nothing in common with Knight Rider at first look, but it does have a lot to do with Linux. Then on closer inspection we find this pocket computer does have something in common with Knight Rider; it looks like something designed in the 1980’s.

The IMOVIO iKIT does have a few good features, like Wi-Fi, QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth and a webcam. The iKit is designed as an always-on internet device, but things take a turn for the worse when you look a bit deeper.

The minicomputer runs on Linux and has just 192MB inside; this has been split between ROM and RAM. This can be resolved by slotting a SD card in the SD card slot. The battery will last three hours, with 250 hours standby.
