Dell Latitude E6400 review: ControlPoint software only bad point

By: Peter Chubb | October 21, 2008 | 3 Comments

If you are looking for a new Dell Latitude, then you should consider the Latitude E6400 as the features of this notebook are amazing. As with all notebooks, there are good and bad points and Notebook Reviews have been looking more in to it.

One of the best features has to be the 19-hour battery life, which is great for business users. Those who reviewed the Dell Latitude E6400 could not find any major problem with the notebook, apart from one dislike.

The one problem is from the ControlPoint software, this means that the trackpoint / touchpoint is less than awesome. If you can overlook this minor problem, then you should go and purchase the Dell Latitude E6400 now.

Whoever did this review obviously knows very little about the Latitude E6400. 19 hour battery life? maybe in sleep it will last that long. Normal use with an extended battery is more like 3-4 hours tops.

Also, ControlPoint has absolutely NOTHING to do with the touchpad. It’s the power/communications/security suite that allows for control of various system functions from one spot. I’m not a fan of it, but it can be uninstalled without affecting system functionality.

Personal opinion: the Dell ControlPoint software is the worst piece of crap I have encountered in 30 years of working with computers. I don't get it. What was wrong with the Windows XP WiFi network setup methodology? To categorize ControlPoint as easy or user friendly is a joke. Sorry, but junk is junk.

e6400 is about my 20th dell computer — most all have been great, however if dell had a brain they would recall and refund — this product is a total disaster
