
Late Nokia 5800 release: hurting company’s stock
By: Peter Chubb | October 17, 2008 | 1 CommentNokia has reported a poor third-quarter performance, as earnings were down 28 percent on the same quarter last year. The phone giant’s revenue also slipped down by 5 percent, as their share of the cell phone market slipped down further.
Nokia could face stock falling even further on the run up to Christmas, as they have missed a trick with the release of one of their handsets. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, their first touchscreen handset has been made available to certain market already. Europe; however is one of their most important markets, and they will not get to see the 5800 until early next year.
With Apple and RIM upping their game, and the new contender, the G1 coming soon, Nokia could now be entering in to a fight that they might not be able to win. Nokia have had the market to themselves for some time now, but the Apple and Google have some very deep pockets and are playing the long game.
