Hands-on: Jabra BT530 Bluetooth Headset

We have reviewed a few Bluetooth headsets from Jabra, but the Jabra BT530 is the first with Noise Blackout technology. This sounds cool, although we wanted to know if the difference is really noticeable.

As per normal, we were really impressed with the way Jabra package their Bluetooth headsets. This is not important to everyone, but when we see a product packaged well it normally means they have taken care with many other areas of development.

At first try the fit was a little tricky (maybe my ears), but thanks to so many choices of Eargels I found the perfect fit after playing around. The Jabra BT530 paired very easy to a few different phones we tried and was surprisingly lightweight.

The dual microphones helped us get great sound for incoming and outgoing calls, although this was not the headsets best feature. The reason we found the BT530 one of the best Bluetooth headsets we’ve tried was Noise Blackout.

Noise cancellation on the BT530 is excellent; it worked for us in almost every noisy environment. Although you have to use a little common sense, trying to use the headset next to loud speakers or with extremely loud music in the background will affect the noise cancellation performance.

We found the Jabra BT530 to have good battery life, the On/Off button was position well, love the idea of Audio Shock Protection, and the device feels comfortable and secure when on (once you find the right eargel). The only problem we found (being picky here) was the volume level, this could have been a little louder.

Jabra BT530 Bluetooth Headset Features:

  • Battery Status Indicator
  • Dedicated on/off slide switch
  • Dual wearing style with 3rd generation Jabra Eargel and flexible ear hook
  • High Performance with Bluetooth 2.0 EDR & eSCO
  • Ideal for all-day use
  • Crystal clear sound with DSP
  • Noise Blackout with dual microphones

I returned one beacause it kept shutting off my phone. Got a new one and the same thing happened. I tried to install the firmware update from the Jabra website via UBS cable. The installation froze halfway through. I tried again and the same thing happened. After that the Jabra stopped working. When I tried to install the firmware a couple of more times it restarted my computer both time. That was the last thing I did on my computer that evening. The next morning, my computer wouldn’t work either. Ask me how happy I am right now. I know that the installation was buggy for some other people I found on the net. All I can say is buyer beware.
It’s too bad cause it was a really good unit for the 2 days that I’ve tried it.
