Microsoft say Xbox 360 can handle MGS4

The boss over at Xbox Live has been saying that he would love to see MGS4 on the Xbox 360. We covered a story yesterday, which said that Konami’s Yoshitaka Arai was working on trying to bring the Metal Gear Solid series to the Xbox 360 console.
This news has caused a huge stir in the gaming world, and for once, all for the right reasons. John Schappert, has said that the games console can certainly handle MGS4, and has been full of praise for Kojima-san’s masterpiece.
There is nothing worse than having such a great game like Metal Gear Solid 4, only available for the Sony PS3. Gamers worldwide have been campaigning for the game to makes its way to the Xbox 360. Are you one of those who would like to see MGS4 on the Microsoft Xbox 360?

Per Kojima, it doesn’t matter whether it can handle it or not. It’s a PS3 exclusive. Kojima Studios is in charge of it’s IP. Not Konami.

they shouldn’t make metal gear solid4 for 360 it was made for ps3 360 cant handle its graphics and gameplay the 360 will probley explode trying to get threw the first level 360 SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Less cutscenes, more game!
Less Cutscenes = Not what Kojima wanted. It also means that less of the overall MG plot, is left unanswered, and purists of the series would go ballistic.
Morne
Ok, not less cutscenes - because these are very impressive - but less detail and shorter cutscenes that don’t interrupt or imo cripple the action. Kojima said he’d address these things if he had his time again on the game, so I’m not on my own.
It’s an impressive and excellent game but I feel the overlong cutscenes and unnecessary detail do hamper it. Sometimes I go to play it but then play something else in case I’m treated to another 2 hour cutscene with only 15mins play in between. Skipping the cut scenes isn’t the answer either as I’ll miss out on the important information buried in all that detail that makes the story line make sense.
thats a hoe move they shouldnt do that ill kill myself
They can do it. As I understand it on the PS3 after each act there is a 15 minute installation process so if one act were put on a single DVD for 5 discs all the player would have to do is switch out a disc to continue which I think would take far less time than waiting for the install on the PS3. Heck if they had to put the multiplayer on another separate disc for 6 disks. I don’t know why game creators seem to be so afraid to use more than one disc. Use one for the campaign and another for the multiplayer.
It appears that Sony is not the rightful owner of MGS series. For example MS has all rights to Halo, so there is no way it can be put on another platform. But Konami is the rightful owner of MGS series. I’m sure they will lose a big bonus check from Sony if they put it out for Xbox 360. The question here is which way is gonna make more money. It’s all about the Benjamin’s…..
Morne, you are 100% wrong. Kojima Productions are the developers, but Konami owns (and always has owned) the IP. Take the Halo series for example, it’s owned by Microsoft (not Bungie). Even if Kojima Productions didn’t want to make a Xbox 360 version, they would not have a choice.
Does it really matter what console the game is on. Seriously, get a phucking life. There is no reason the 360 couldn’t handle MGS4 either. It’s a game… or a movie… or a movie with interactive cut-scenes or something of the sort… but I’m sure there is a game in there somewhere and I enjoyed it on PS3 but I’ll be happy to see it get more attention on the 360 whether or not it comes on 3 discs or 6 discs. To the real point: Why does everybody get so pissed off when “game company x” reveals “Game X” is going to “Console X” instead of or in addition to “Console Y.” Citing loyalty is a stupid reason also. It isn’t that “Game company X” was loyal to the previous iterations of “Console Y.” There just wasn’t anymoney to be made by porting over the game if the install base wasn’t there. I’m sure MGS3 didn’t get ported to the original X-box because 2 didn’t to so hot when it was ported. Since the PS3’s install base is less than the 360’s and the games attach rate is also higher than either of the other consoles, Konami wouldn’t want to miss an opportunity to make a some more money off of their highest profile game.
Microsoft is pulling out all the stops to promote their aging and shoddy console, and this would include stealing the best exclusives that sony has to slow the progress of the PS3. They still want their system to be seen as having all the best games so that all the xbox fanboys continue to downplay the PS3 as not being a “true” gaming console or having any games (stop living in 2006 guys). A combination of price cuts and a few AAA titles before christmas will secure the 360’s lead this year, and next year their stolen exclusives will have an impact on overall sales as people will just buy MGS4 or FFXIII on 360 rather than getting a PS3. More shame to hurt Sony’s game…
Just like Sergio said above “it’s all about the benjamins”
The XBOX 360 is killing the PS3 and their useless blu-ray. MS has proven that they can win in Japan and the US. I’m not a xbox fan boy, i’m a game fan boy, I wish nothing but success to the PS3, but the blu-ray was a bad Idea. MS has said, the sales have proven it and Apple wants nothing to do with it.
MGS4 would sell fantastically on the 360, especially now that Japan has chosen the 360 over the PS3.
numbers, numbers, numbers… MGS4 is at the time one of the most expensive games developed, and the ps3 is not doing very well at the market, Konami owns the IP and dont have another succesful franchise, xbox360 are selling very well even on japan…just do the math.
@ TJ Spyke - Thanks for the clarification, appreciate it, wasn’t entirely sure about that statement but figured someone else would elaborate if I was wrong. However, the bottom line is Kojima STudios wouldn’t work on a port. So sure, pull a Valve and give it to EA lol.
PS. Given it’s year head start, the Xbox is in no way ‘killing’ the PS3. The recent price cut definitely help it’s sales, but it was trailing in sales in every region prior to the cut in 2008, so…

GameFrkGamer,
Your thinking too black and white. Try too hard to convince yourself that Sony is doing well. Since Sony took a real hard hit to win the Blue Ray war (by the way Sony did pay Fox & other big movie company to go exclusive) they cannot afford to drop the PS3 system price. It will hurt them too much. MS took a beating too by the ring of death, but they were smart having an external HD DVD just in case if it didn’t work out. If HD DVD did succeed, I’m sure MS would have used it for gaming as well. See, MS made options for themselves, Sony just looked at it & said hey we are Sony. We will win. That’s why they are in a bad position when it comes to their gaming industry.
I say they make a bargain. Mgs4 goes to 360 if halo 3 and gears of war series go to ps3 also.
This game will come to the 360 and sell way more than the ps3 version. MARK MY WORDS!!!
i hope this comes out i don’t care that much about the game but theres millions who do and i want to see microsolft kick sony asss
It doesn’t really matter who kicks who’s ass. What really matters is that we all get great games to play, regardless of what platform they arrive on. Why does everybody seem to suggest trading Halo and Gears of War for MGS 4. I thought Halo was crap and GoW was repetative and boring. Oh how the tunes change…
brodeur30njdvl, I hope you are just kidding. Metal Gear is a third party franchise that Sony has no control over. Halo is owned by Microsoft (not Bungie), so that will never appear on the PS3. Microsoft does publish the Gears of War games, but Epic Games owns the IP.
Only fanboys (like PS3 owners upset that their system is in third place, and has been outsold by the Xbox 360 in Japan for over a month) should have a problem with games appearing on as many systems as possible.
Whats funny about all this is Kojima said himself less cutscenes and more game on the next metal gear game he makes . 360 can handle MGS4 no matter what they say. ( 360 has more mem then PS3 FACT ) but all i can say is who care i guess PS3 needs at least one good game lol because let me think what else do they have ……………………………………………………hmmmmmmmmmmmm nevermind.
@ Tommy : Fact - Both systems have 512M of RAM. The 360 doesn’t have more, it’s just easier for developers to access the full 512 on the 360 b/c it’s shared. Whereas the PS3 has dedicated cpu/gpu RAM. It can still be accessed tho.
Morne
Fact the 360 has 1GB of ram. Known fact. Oh and it doesn’t look like you know that the graphic card on the PS3 only has 256MB of video memory while the graphic card on the Xbox 360 has 512MB of video memory. The overall system of the Xbox 360 is better than the PS3 except for cell processor and blu-ray drive in the PS3. I am not totally convinced that the PS3 has enough of a system backing up the cell processor to really push it. Thus Sony can claim that developers wont ever be able to take full advantage of the PS3 hardware.
The falling sales of the PS3 are evidence that they have an over-priced console. The dwindling economy isn’t going to help Kojima’s case either. Personally, MGS4 should be on 360 because a majority of potential PS3 buyers/PS2 fanboys (such as myself) got the 360 because it was cheaper than the PS3.
Of course it was just a mistake. But then again was it? haha
grow up…who cares, if your like me you own all the systems so your covered!
Everyone thinks its some big conspiracy!
Rofl, the 360 doesn’t have a gig of RAM. You’re dreaming. Everyone knows both machines have 512M of RAM. The 360 has 512M of shared DDR3 @ 700MHZ, and the PS3 has 256M of XDR @ 3.2g dedicated to the CPU, and 256M of DDR3 @ 700MHZ dedicated to the GPU. Get your facts straight.
Morne
The 360 only has 512mb ram. No more no less. The consoles are reletively equal in terms of power. It doesn’t matter what the people say. Raw power is tilted a tad more toward the PS3 but graphical power is tilted towards the 360. If utilized correctly though, the PS3 could create some nicer looking games, then again, none of the companies have actually used multi-threading on the 360’s three Cores. Even Cliffy B has stated that they haven’t used it. There wil always be room to improve game quality/performance on both consoles. The only real limitations between the 360 and the PS3 is memory and access to what is there. but if were talking about total amount of memory, the 360 actually has 10mb embedded ram on the GPU so it actually has 522 mb ram. That really only helps the shading though. PS3 = 360 and vise-versa.
Who cares what system the game comes out on anyway. 360 version equals more money for MGS 5 development.
Personally, I don’t want MGS4 on my Xbox360! The biggest reason is that Japanese Humor really irks me! Every Japan based game is plagued with cutesy little jokes that horribly ruin the atmosphere of the game. Either that or the main character looks too feminine.
For the record, I’ve been living in Miyoshi, Japan for about 5 years and counting.
The 360 and ps3 have 512mb of RAM each, the 360’s is unified and the ps3’s isnt. also the 360 is more efficient in the use of its RAM i think it only uses 32mb compared to the ps3’s 96mb for certain things. the 360 GPU is more powerful, and the CPU’S are about the same
PS3 FTW.
PS3 is in last place.
