FCC chairman supports white spaces for wireless broadband
By: Peter Chubb | October 16, 2008 | Leave a CommentKevin Martin, FCC chairman has proposed that we open up unused parts of the television airwaves “White Spaces” and deliver wireless broadband service through it. Martin has been appealing to both the publics and groups of technology companies to bring a more affordable high-speed Internet connection the American people.
Some of the companies that FCC chief Kevin Martin is appealing too are Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp., and if he can get them two in side, the half the battle has been won. Martin’s plan could meet with opposition from the nation’s big television broadcasters.
They worry that the use of White Spaces and use them to bring wireless Internet broadband could disrupt their over-the-air signals.
