Will you buy Wii 2 and Xbox the Third in 2010?
Filed under: Gaming, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360

Today we are hearing a rumor from Pacific Crest Securities that we should expect the Wii 2 and Xbox the Third (aka Xbox 720, aka Xbox 3) in 2010.
While they also claim that we could see another generation of PSP’s and Nintendo DS, no comments were made about Sony’s PS4. Thanks to the Nintendo Wii being graphics-impaired and the Xbox 360 having its fair share of set backs (RROD, HD-DVD), we can see these versions coming in 2010 as well.
The Playstation 4 is another story, the games system not only has a more solid hardware platform, but it also has technology that catered more for a longer shelf life. The question is: Will you buy Wii 2 or Xbox the Third in 2010 if they get released that year?

I don’t think nintendo should actually make a new console all together. They should have some sort of upgrade. Yeah, an optional upgrade that current wii owners could get if they wanted to experience HD.
shut ya mouth m8 wii owners will get a full holographic,HD,Wii2,that supports the future of graphics and guess what nintendo are in the best space in the market to do such a thing sony no chance,360 maybe, plus this is nintys plan to adopt a new audience and convert them, plus its already news that there next console will be a true successor to the wii, with holographic storage filed and patented with the biggest company involved with HVD in-phase tech if they use this tech which is the best on the market ninty have won already 1HVD disc can hold every game ever made on the N64 just so u know how big a deal this is games could be truly massive
The third-generation Xbox and Wii 2 are not coming in 2010.
The *soonest* they’re coming is fall 2011.
I figure all the next-gen consoles, including PS4, will have launched by fall 2012 at the latest, but 2010 is not happening, not even with Microsoft.
2010 is when we might see the next-gen handhelds, PSP2 and DS2.
Perhaps even a Microsoft Xbox-branded handheld, the oft-rumored Xboy or whatever
We also might see, in 2010, the expected smaller, slimmer refreshes of Xbox360 and PS3 — but not the next-gen consoles. Most of the industry expects
Xbox720 – Wii 2 – PS4 in 2011 or 2012.
How in the world do you figure that the PS3 hardware has an inheritely longer shelf life? That’s just Sony marketing hype that all the kool aid drinkers buy into. I don’t blame Sony for making the claim, but smart people should be able to sort this out by now.
If the PS3 is so powerful, how come it can’t render all its games at 1080p with Antialiasing and Anistropic Filtering? Clearly if there is this excess of power, they should have no problem rendering COD4 at 1080p with 4xAA and 16xAF. My PC does this just fine so it should be no problem for the all powerful PS3 right? Well it currently can’t and it doesn’t. Almost all Xbox 360 and PS3 games are limited to being rendered at 720p or less because of hardware constraints. This alone is pretty solid proof that both consoles are already showing their age compared to current technology. You can’t really argue with the real world results.
The PS3 uses a modified GeForce 7 series GPU for pushing pixels. That technology has already been THRICE superceded by the 8 series, 9 series and 200 series on PC. The latest and greatest PC hardware already crushes the PS3 by a factor of 4x in terms of raw performance. Not that you can blame the Sony for that since this is just the way of technology.
If Sony doesn’t pull the trigger on a new console around the same time as the Xbox 720 or Wii 2, they are going to find themselves vastly underpowered by comparison. There will be no chance they can compete on capability like they can in the current generation.
Console technology usually mirrors the current high end at the time of launch. Let’s keep in mind that the CURRENT high end as of 2008 is already 4x more powerful than the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Two years from now you are looking at more like 6x to 8x higher performance in terms of available off the shelf tech that Microsoft can slap into a new console with minimal R&D required.
Enjoy your consoles, just don’t buy into the marketing hype. It’s just not based in reality.
J5 nailed it!
Well put my friend, well put
Wii HD will get every single cross platform game it wont be like the wii ED thats out now that tends to be exclusives that make the Wii a success MH3,REDC,RED STEEL 2,NO MORE HEROS 2,SAMMURAI WARRIORS 3,SMASH BROS BRAWL,MARIO GAMES,ect lots lots more plus sport games are amazing on the platform but WiiHD will get all cross platform games FALLOUT 4,MODERN WARFARE 3,GTA 5-6,MAFIA 3,GOD FATHER 3,ect all at 60 fps 1080p trust me nintendo likes a superior framerate thats why i like them dont think nintendo will make same mistakes as 360/ps3 being not powerfull enough to render games at 1080p even 720p at 60fps this is all nintendo has to do
imagine all triple AAA cross platform titles plus nintendo exclusives running at 1080p/60fps and being able to upscale older games MP3,MG,MH3,DEVIL KINGS 3,F12009,ect
