Sony PS3 Update 2.50: Go Get It

Sony say that PS3 Firmware update 2.50 will build upon the foundation of previous updates, that is great in theory but the software updates never go smoothly. Firmware Update 2.50 for the PlayStation 3 is all set and now ready for download, so you had better get going.

The new update could be a good one, offering exclusive options for support for official wireless headsets, like an on-screen indicator that shows volume, battery charge, and mute functions. There is also a High Quality (HQ) mode. The HQ mode helps to improve the voice chat experience.

The best feature for me has to be the new Flash 9 support; this means that you are able to browse web pages with full Flash support. The 2.50 update also has an enhanced the user interface for PS3 Trophies.

Only time will tell if Sony PS3 firmware update 2.50 is any good, or if it has any bugs. Let us know what your thoughts are.

I just tried the BBC web site and it does not appear that support for Flash 9 has been included.

  2. Mark says:

Flash9 IS included, a browser check on the version shows: “PS3 9,0,123″ as it’s version string. (it used to be “PS3 7,0,0,4).

There is lots of funky client detection going on the BBC iPlayer, so I suspect that they are still making the now flawed assumption that PS3 does not do Flash9.

Using http://www.ps3iplayer.com works just fine, as it always has, I hope they update it, so we can view the H264 streams, not the old Wii ones…

As for the PS3 update, working very nicely seems like a performance boost too, with the XMB being a little more responsive The Trophy UI is improved, and I tried the shutdown after downloading and it works REALLY well. You can queue upto 12 downloads, and then set it to switch off after it’s downloaded and installed them.

  5. Regmak says:

2.50 does not have the flash player 9. That is what I was most amped about and it does not work! I’m so mad! AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!! If it is installed then why wont fancast or southpark studios work when I go to them it says you need flash player 9! And when are we going to get the in game music player!!

  6. Mark says:

@Regmak Please go back to your Xbox (or is it broken).

This update DOES have Flash9, please don’t lie.
The PS3 has had ingame music since 2,40

    Some people are clearly cretins.

  7. Regmak says:

Dont know where u are from but here in washington state we are all waiting for in game music update and flash 9 did not come w/ my 2.50 update, no need to be a jerk and call people liars, but rather point them in the right direction, your insults just show your lack of inteligence or patience which go hand in hand. so if someone who does know what the prob is with the north america update or the modus operandi please help me. Maybe it’s just my ps3 but it shows the original flash it came with.

ps. Modus Operandi (Latin term for method of operation)

  8. Mark says:

Hey moron, browse to this site with PS3 browser , and tell me it what version it says you have.

    http://www.mediacollege.com/adobe/flash/player/version/show.html

It used to be Flash7, it’s now Flash 9.

The fact some stupid website you want to view may still not work, is totally unrelated. Are all Americans as stupid as you are?

It’s clear technology is not your forte, I suggest selling all yoru tech good, and sticking to pen and paper.

  9. Stewart says:

Hey dumbass, all the versions are identical, there is no problem with the North American version, it’s identical to the Japanese and European versions, which works just fine with flash 9 content.

    Some people.//

  10. Regmak says:

Don’t know where your from but thanks for the liitle help you gave and maybe you should reflect upon how much of an ass you are and think of how you are representing your country and your people, though Im sure you are the biggest doush where you come from.
