Sony PS3 update 2.50 gets DivX VOD

I’ve just download the new Software for PS3 and have noticed a minor glitch,
The text boy you use on the web is slower and is quite annoying.
The PSN store has had a small change when it starts up,
the account settings dont go into the grey screen which is a bit faster to load
thats all i’ve noticed so far.

No I haven’t had a chance to download the newest PS3 update yet, It’s still morning here and I’m still at school, I’m looking forward to getting back home this afternoon and checking it out, the update looks promising with plenty of new worthwhile features.

However then again, I might wait a few days before I download the update, because remember what happened to 2.4 update this past summer ? Early adopters whom downloaded the update the day it came out, got they’re PS3 system fucked and they had to call Sony and have it replaced.

So perhaps I might wait until the updated becomes readily available and people report positive feedback.

On another note, the PS3 is finally catching up the the 360 in terms of productivity and features. The games are also getting better and chances are I’ll be buying the PS3 Headset and the SOCOM bundle tomorrow.

Thanks Sony for continuing to improve the PS3 and bringing it soaring at new heights !

Ran the update this morning (and the PSP one), everything fine, infact the XMB seems to be alot more responsive. Quite alot of tweaks and undocumented improvements. The browser seems faster, and flash9 is working well.

The trophy UI is much improved.

As for the 2.4 update problems, Jordan is making a mountain out of a molehill. Out of the 16million PS3′s out there, the number of console affected was tiny ( .00001%)

well i downloaded the new update and well im still annoyed that the fact the xbox 360 can still join game in session and we cant hopfully ps3/sony will make this possible in the next few months

what else does this update do i cant really see a dif apart from seein wen your friends were last on

my youtube plays sound but no picture . also txting is a shade slower. does your youtube work ?

for scotty c. it also allows sequential video playbacks, a scene skip feature like the one on the psp, you can choose to turn off your ps3 if you go idle for 1 hour to 5 hours and it turns off the controller if its inactive for 3 minutes. and it makes account management and the profile more easy to manage.

i’m having trouble getting this update already tryed twice but it has an error is anyone else having trouble?

i have just downloaded and fully tested works great power managmnet flash 9 for better website compatability smoother xmb a way more responsive PSN Store the divx VOD does require activation by creating a divx account and downloading an activation video then playing on the system (i burnt it to dvd and played it from the disc) also i like the Interface change on the gamer profiles

Its made all of the videos on my hard drive play in black & white

took the update now my ps3 is freezing and going black everything was fine before called sony they said 1out of 5 calls say the same thing.

if you have video on your hd don’t get if you have an sd tv unless you like black and white.l found out the hard way

i have tryed it about 5 times now and i am really getting annoyed with it because wen i try and install 2.50 it tkes about 5 hours to get to 50 % and then it goes off and then i turn the ps3 bk on and it says error summin and do u want to install again
anyone else had this problem ?

I downloaded 2.50 yesterday, i also have same problem with my videos showing only in black and white plus small difference in sound.. I really hope that Sony fixes this bug fast, because this is not what i payed for. Also im very disappointed over the freezing of GTA IV still not fixed, i thought they were gonna be more serious this time…and while im at it, why is there no peer to peer in this update, soon ps3 will be a dusty box in everyones attic because none of the real perks announced has actually been released.. i urge people to start mailing sony complaining about this lack of good updates.

MAJOR ISSUE- The update will not allow me to view american downloaded tv shows – such as south park, family guy, etc….worked fine before the update but now are black and white (Prob an ntsc to pal issue….but only just happened since the update) all my english downloaded videos work fine….

this is bull$%!^! it’s completly stoped my current divx movies from working correctly! (black and white, funny lines at the top of my screen) i diddnt pay R6000 for this. What gives?

I will just clarify the update itself was no problem love the flash 9 other little tweaks seem fine have not maneged to sort out the divx/vod yet even the life thing seems bit borin but works.
the only problem…and its a whopper of a prob..is that about 100gb of films i have are now black n white…not alfred hitchcock ones either ones from my pc through media server and avi files on disc do the same, yet b4 update they worked fine… i dont know if its cos my tv is shite or the more believable pal/ntsc bug….reason i say that is because i get a flash of blue screen b4 film starts like the ps3 has jus tried to play another region film….Somebody plz show this bug to sony so they can do a firmware 2.55 asap

since the update some of my mpeg videos are in black and white both from the hdd and dvd. Any word on solutions yet? ITS TOTALLY CRAP!

No I haven’t got Standard TV, and I’m in fact using HDTV 720p. I’m pretty sure it’s only affecting those whom are using SDTV.

Like everyone who is running PS3 on a SD TV, I have got the Black & White picture when playing video content from my Media Server! So very annoyed as this was one of the main purposes of purchasing a PS3.

I hope SONY action a solution ASAP!

Also I would like to mention, that for those who purchased SOCOM, lately the servers have been experiencing difficulties and problems, so it’s a little glitchy at times while playing SOCOM.

Hopefully the developers will rectify this issue ASAP !

However as for my review of the 2.5 update, I haven’t really got any complaints everything seems to be working fine on my end, I’m really enjoying the new features and I’m glad Sony slightly improved browsing in PS Store.

I’m pretty sure the PS3 will keep on getting better and better….

Hi, I would just like to mention that there is only a glitch where if you have a SDTV (Standard-Definition or non-HD) that you should not download PS3 Firmware Update 2.50. If you download the update all movies and the such will display in black and white. If you have a HDTV you need not worry about the black and white glitch as it only affects SDTV’s. Otherwise update 2.50 seems to be working fine.

this is a disgrace. i have an sd tv, same problems, did the divx registration thing, still didn’t work. i’ve emailed playstation with my anger. £400 for fuzzy black and white movies? shambles

I use my ps3 as a dvd player and i have over 50gb of films on my hard drive and its bang out of order that al of them play in black and white y add summert so f*kin sh*t in an update

I want it sorted out because i have payed a lot of f*kin money for this and i cant watch any films now!

My internet browser seems better and I don’t get forced to close windows any more (for now), they solved one or two errors but they created more. Some youtube videos shows sound with no picture and the mouse cursor thing dissapears for no reason and I can’t get it to come back on until it decides to reappear itself, Anybody else with this problem?

completely agree matty, its fecking outrageous, really making me angry and i want it fixed. its a fuuucing joke to be honest. theyve just shafted the people who dont have brand new tvs

When i came home from school and went to play call of duty 4 and it said i had to download a new update (2.50) so i was like cool a new update. then i went to download it and i got to like 5 percent. so i switched my ps3 to wireless and it still didnt work but i got it to like 15 percent. i really wanna play online. if anyone wants to help me there will be something in it for you ; ]…. (i mean on the play station store)

ok this is pissing me off. i havent been able to play online since the update came out and if playstation wont fix this i will be sueing for the cost of the internet the two weeks i havent been able to play and the cost of the no longer working playstation 3.

I am trying to get the download, but at 10% I get an error now I can’t sign in to get online for the games yet I can still use the internet through the ps3 ??? is there something I should do to fix this download problem, ie reset ps3 to default settings or something like that?

I haven’t downloaded the new update, it seems that either thru ps3 or pc download, the server of psn is down. I think that there has been problems with the update especially with the movies, psn is not really up right now and maybe they are making adjustments to the latest update. Hopefully this will be resolve since i’m itching here to play online. Best luck to sony to fix this!

I have search the web for help with this update. The only thing I found was a way to download the 2.50 update straight to your pc from this website:

Then using a flash drive or memory stick update the PS3 that way. however, when I try to download the update to my PC I get a message saying:
‘PS3UPDAT.PUP. Part could not be saved, Because the source file could not be read’

Maybe this is the reason why the ps3 can’t update?

since downloading this update i can now longer play downloaded divx movies from my laptop/pc….the movies always freeze etc and then cut out part way threw…and say content cannot be played…its ridiculous..thats one of the only uses i use my playstation for and now its gone! to be honest ps3 are a waste of time…your lucky to get a demo or maybe a ps1 game if your lucky on a friday from them….serious change needs to happen…big let down

I have now sorted the download to work for me. I must say that it wasn’t a fault with the download after all. It was my router. The security settings on my router stopped the download from completing so I hat to go into my router setting and ‘allow all’ in the security part of the router set up. Now using the net and downloading updates work perfectly.

Just a question for ‘Simon Hodgkinson’ if you only use your PS3 for downloaded movies from your laptop then why not use a DVD player for that. As must DVD players play ‘Copy Movies’ and there are a lot cheaper than a PS3

the ps3 is bought primarily for games. however, it is also bought with the expectation that it will play videos. i don’t want to watch prison break on my 15″ laptop screen and I shouldn’t have to since i paid £400 for my ps3. that’s the point

to all of you moaning about black and white fuzzy movies why would you have a ps3 and not a hdtv if you can afford a ps3 surely you can afford a hdtv, you can pick them up for as little as £300 or $600 come on people get a grip

you seem like this is not a problem at all, maybe you dont have this problem, and couldnt give a damn. I have a hdtv at home, but as im working on a oilrefinery in the weekdays, i have this 28″ normal tv at the sleeping room where i live in the weekdays. wtf, should i be forced to buy new equipment all the time, when the tv i have works just fine ?! maybe so that you get a tv for 300-600£ but this money is needed somewhere else, the garage.Sony has disappointed big time with the evolution of ps3. Its like microsoft now.

I don’t think Sony or Microsoft has disappointed anyone, we all love games and we all demand better games each time we go to buy them, and with the price of games it is only fair to yourself to play them on the best equipment you can afford. but lets face it, if you watch a blu-ray movie using your ps3 on a normal TV, you are not going to get the same experience as you would using an HDTV. so what would be the point then in complaining that your movies don’t play that good. I am not saying everyone should go out and buy all the best stuff, but at least before anyone complains about anything, check the problem first see if it is your stuff that is the problem before complaining to sony or microsoft

After updating this f… firmware 2.50 the brand new black box is repeatedly freezing especially when exiting the store or switching between internet. This did not occur with 2.36 before 2.50. I have to hard reset my PS3 and it has got me really worried. It freezes and the XMB does not appear. The web browser is even more prone to freezes/crashes as is using the on screen keyboard or not also I am getting a lot of connection errors as well.
Media Server with tversity and wrt54gs DOESNT work great on wpa security (but my iPhone run strong with same files…)
Is it impossible now to install Linux with any wireless wpa connexion, nothing run because sony hypervisor fake…

well since downloading 2.50 I have had no probs at all. Now there is the 2.52 update and still I have no problems.everything is running good for me.

The 2.52 update totally fixed all my issues, nice one Sony for sorting that out!
