We learned yesterday that the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics will be used in the new Apple MacBook. So how come Apple decided to do away with Intel and choose NVIDA instead. There are a number of reasons for this, but the main reason is the performance.
The performance and features on the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT should be the perfect solution for improved graphics. The spec certainly read well, which you can see below. The GeForce 9600M GT was produced in 65nm; this gives higher clock rates with the same current consumption. The GPU also features a new PureVideo HD video processor, called VP3 as well as HybridPower support.
To give you an idea of the performance of the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, it is somewhere between the 9500M GS and the 8700M GT, this is dependent on what memory chips are used.
The specs are as follows:
- Codename NB9P
- Core Speed 500 MHz
- Current Consumption 23 Watt
- DirectX DirectX 10, Shader 4.0
- Max. Amount of Memory 1024 MB
- Memory Bus Width 128 Bit
- Memory Speed 800 MHz
- Memory Type GDDR2, GDDR3
- Pipelines 32 - unified
- Series GeForce 9M
- Shader Speed 1250 MHz
