Mazda not to open new U.S. factory: Ford to blame
By: Peter Chubb | October 15, 2008 | Leave a CommentMazda are now scrapping their plan to open a new factory in the U.S., saying that poor sales and trouble with Ford were to blame. In a Reuters report, Mazda did state that they were not planning to expand the output in the U.S. in the first place.
Mazda Motor of Japan had considered taking over a former Ford plant, they also had a choice of building a new one with partners, Ford in the hope of producing more fuel-efficient mid-size cars. The new plant was all set to start production in 2010.
With Ford now wanting to sell a portion of their 33.4% stake in Mazda, this is why the new U.S. factory plant fell through. You have to ask yourself where this leaves Mazda, and who will purchase a stake in the Japanese automaker. What automaker do we know with deep pockets?
