T-Mobile G1: Truth behind Android phone sales figures
By: Peter Chubb | October 14, 2008 | 7 CommentsWe along with hundreds of other tech Websites reported on the news that the T-Mobile G1 has sold 1.5 million Google Android handsets on pre-order sales alone. But can we honestly believe that there is any truth in these sales figures.
Information Week remarked that they do not buy in to it, which is why they went and done a little digging. They believe that the 1.5 million sales figures is made up, they do add on a good point, Google and T-Mobile have not reacted to this report, that they have sold that many units, which seems a little strange.
I do agree with Information Week, where they say that the T-Mobile G1 has not been exploited for press releases, banner ads, or TV commercials like the Apple iPhone 3G was. The iPhone 3G sold 1 million handsets in just its first weekend, and that was in 20 countries, 500,000 to 700,000 were sold in the U.S. alone. These pre-orders for the G1 are from existing T-Mobile customers. So do you see where this story is going?
