T-Mobile G1: Truth behind Android phone sales figures

We along with hundreds of other tech Websites reported on the news that the T-Mobile G1 has sold 1.5 million Google Android handsets on pre-order sales alone. But can we honestly believe that there is any truth in these sales figures.

Information Week remarked that they do not buy in to it, which is why they went and done a little digging. They believe that the 1.5 million sales figures is made up, they do add on a good point, Google and T-Mobile have not reacted to this report, that they have sold that many units, which seems a little strange.

I do agree with Information Week, where they say that the T-Mobile G1 has not been exploited for press releases, banner ads, or TV commercials like the Apple iPhone 3G was. The iPhone 3G sold 1 million handsets in just its first weekend, and that was in 20 countries, 500,000 to 700,000 were sold in the U.S. alone. These pre-orders for the G1 are from existing T-Mobile customers. So do you see where this story is going?

    Why can’t the g1 sell 1.5 millions? Is it because your beloved Apple CrapPhone couldn’t? NO one gives a sh*t about how well the Icrap did.
    I for one pre-ordered a couple G1s and i know at least 6 coworkers who did the same.

    LooK Here! “writer of Product Review”, do you understand there are millions or maybe billions of Google fanatics that seeks what Google has new to offer, also you need to get it through your “techno illiterate mind” that Google generates 16.7 billion dollars in revenues just from advertisement in their search engine alone, so who need TV commercials, banners and the additional help that Iphone needed when most of the people around the world uses GOOGLE. In addition this phone been it talkings from about over a year ago when it was only a Myth and a dream, so everyone knew it was coming but didnt know it was going to be this advance and I’m sure glad it is, THIS SMART PHONE IS BETTER THAN IPHONE and don’t COMPARE IT, because Tmobile G1 is way more advance and has no competition that can go against the OS platform that it contains. Also the sales figure is more truthful than an assumption, because Tmobile has over 1.5 million customers, also since everyone have knowledge of how fun it is to have a phone with touchscreen, thanks to HTC prior devices and the Iphone for that, we all really excited to see that same technology for tmobile, but just way more advance to say, I also spoke to Tmobile reps and managers who also confirmed that it’s true, because every they’re sold out again after tripling orders. So PLEASE do us a favor and STOP HATEING on THEE GOD PHONE!!! SUCKAZ!!!

    My only issue with the G1 reports is a journalistic one, not a device or platform one. All these stories trace back to one guy’s claims that aren’t substanciated or sourced.

    @Johnnie Doe, T-mobile G1
    Come on guys, the article is just commenting on the accuracy of the figures, not making a judgment on the phone itself. I am an Android fan and even I say the numbers are unlikely to be accurate given they come from only one original source, still are not officially verified, and also because they are orders of magnitude off from original projections given by HTC & T-mobile themselves.

    I am very disapponted about this blog page. It degenerates my mind to see a place where people come and try to take on my son, the iPhone. No parallels should ever be made to my phone unless they are to show the trend of how other phones should try to look like “try to”. Google could not have sold that lingered amount since this phone was only sold in the us. Besides, those numbers if proven to be true would then mean that another phone sold better than the iPhone and (LOL) thats quite impossible. We would not employ android in our plataform since osx mobile included in iPhone and iPod touch is light years ahead of even windows let alone android. It is time for you atters to open up and bend over to the iPhone thats all you can do, bend over and take it deep because we have the largest growth in business. As I’m typing this from my iPhone looking at my mac, connected to my time cabsule in the back of my ishgt recording my girlfriend this is all I got to say.
