Sony PS3 Flash 9 Video in Web Browser: Firmware 2.50

Sony PS3 owners always like to know what they will be getting when there are firmware updates, and we would all love to know what version 2.50 has to offer. PlayStation 3 owners will be pleased to know that one new feature on the update is Flash 9 Video for the web browser.

This is great news, and a feature that has been lacking on previous updates, looks like firmware update 2.50 could be one that we will remember for all the good reasons for a change. Another new added feature is being able to see optional EXIF (exchangeable image file format), this is the information that you get when viewing photos on your PS3.

Other key features for Sony PS3 firmware update 2.50 are remapping for Y and Z and Q and A keys, this is used on the German on-screen keyboard. You will be able to tweak power management settings, as well as an improved Trophy interface.

Can only be a good thing! =) updates for anything electronic are always a good thing. Provided they’ve been properly tested before release of course.

I am currently viewing this page in my browser and would like to ad that the firmware update still needs a fix. I am a webmaster of RNmusicgroup.org and Disfunctionalhaha.com, they will load correctly in my browswer for my cpu but will not load correctly in the ps3 browser. Either way I am so appreciative of the new update because I am specifically an action scripter but I would really like them bring out the second update for the flash 9 as soon as possible. Thank you.

What might this mean for Wii’s Opera browser? To this point, Opera has been forced to use flash 7 which means users are limited to what videos they can watch. Opera had explained that the problem was on Adobe’s end and there was nothing they could do. Does this update mean that Opera is likely to follow for Wii users?

The addition of flash 9 to the PS3 was surprising (though not completely successful). It was thought that Sony would wait for Adobe to release a new SDK - probably flash 8. I think Sony realised how important an integrated browser was, with most Sony; Playstation; gaming; game studio websites being useless with flash 7.
I can only assume money changed hands? As far as I know flash 7 is still the highest Adobe has made available for free use. Coincidentally, Adobe released flash 10 the day of update 2.50.
