Microsoft officially confirms Windows 7 as next OS

With Window Vista not getting off to a great start and many users switching back to XP Microsoft knew that they had to work on a newer operating system sooner than they hoped. The code name for the next OS was Windows 7, well now Microsoft has officially confirmed that this will stay as the name of the successor to the unpopular Windows Vista.

Mike Nash, vice president of Windows product management, said that they stuck with the code name of the new software for simplicity’s sake. He added that as it is the seventh release of Windows, it makes sense to stick with the Windows 7 name.

A number of bloggers have been picking holes in that statement, saying that there have been nine editions of Windows and not even. Microsoft has said that they will have an alpha version of Windows 7 for attendees of its Professional Developers Conference, this opens October 25 and Nov 5. So maybe we might get to learn a little bit more about Windows 7 soon.
