LittleBigPlanet: What will it do for Sony PS3 in Sales?

A number of online stores are taking pre-orders of LittleBigPlanet, this promises to be one of the biggest games for the Sony PS3 this year. There has been so much hype surrounding the game, you have to wonder if it able to live up to all the hype.

LittleBigPlanet could certainly help the sales of the PlayStation 3 for the holiday season; let us hope that the game can deliver. The game offers unlimited possibilities for your own creations; you are able to customize Sackboy, as well as the landscape that is around him and create your own levels.

The game is great on its own, but when you get on the Internet with LittleBigPlanet, then things really come to life. You are able to share you creations with other players around the world; it is this kind of community that could really move Sony PS3 sales on to another level.

  1. Slippy Sloppy says:

The game will sell by the bucket load, we’re crying out for a decent exclusive on the PS3. I doubt it’ll do much for sales of the console though as it’s not an IP people are familiar with.

  2. The Future of Sega says:

Sega Dreamcast has a better chance at making profit than this game. :P

  3. Slippy Sloppy says:

Ha! It’s funny the Wii feels like this generations Dreamcast but it just keeps on selling. In years to come people will look back on my life and say “man he bought a lot of junk!”.

I also doubt it, alone, will move many consoles. But this, combined with R2, Motorstorm 2, SOCOM and Valkyria Chronicles should keep PS3 in the runnings (even without a price drop) through the holidays. I do think they need to drop price by next summer, though.

96 on Metacritic, btw (same score Bioshock got on 360). One of the highest reviewed games this gen. (it’s higher than MGS4, Gears, AND Zelda…).

  5. blinks says:

forgot to say…I do also think it will become the best selling PS3 game so far within the next year (prediction at 6 million copies by the end of next year). Just a prediction based on hype and critical review.

All of the hopes an dreams for PS3 to become a big boy system have been squashed by one song. Poor PS3 fanboys, go get a fun system guys, stop waiting for good exclusives when the 360 already has them. Just convert and be done with it.

All of the hopes and dreams for Xbox fanboys to become worthy members of society have been squashed by one post. Poor xbox fanboys, go get a life. Stop trolling forums you have nothing to do with and be done with it.

-Delayed by one week…you’re right, the game is dead!

  8. Andrew says:

Sorry, went a little overboard. But it is humourous to note that the biggest expected game for the PS3 gets rocked by one song. And one week is one week. Its still funny. And I don’t troll forums thank you, I don’t think that is a viable use of that word anyway. I was looking to see what the pre-order sales for Littlebigplanet looked like. I was trying to be funny about they fact that the post was stating how this could turn around PS3’s so far mediocre profits. I hope it does, because if PS goes under there won’t be much in the way of competition, that is the only way we can get a decent system out of either of them. And I never said the game was dead.

Who cares, PS3 or Xbox 360 Fanboys are all morons. I own a 360 and I enjoy it, I don’t understand why people would go and get a PS3, since it doesn’t have as many good games. But too each their own I suppose.

In closing, I am sorry for my outburst. I hope that this game does well. It looks like a blast, and I hope to one day try it out.

I own both consoles personally. I agree with LBP not being a console mover, but you can’t deny its critical success (and it will probably sell a lot of copies to people who already own a PS3).

I personally own both and never understood the “PS3 has no games” misconception. I’ve enjoyed about the same amount of exclusives on both my 360 and PS3. Of course, it all depends on your taste in games I guess. I happen to like games like Warhawk, Uncharted and Ratchet as much as I like games like Gears, Fable and Halo (multiplayer).

And yes, the only reason I responded as over the top to your first comment was to match your earlier post. I’m glad it’s switched to a somewhat civil conversation, as this is the type I personally prefer. (I just feel obliged to defend a quality product when it gets needlessly attacked).
