Slingbox iPhone: Feedback from Apple phone owners

A number of people has been asking if SlingBox will work on the Apple iPhone. The first thing that you would need is a client called Slingplayer. This client allows you to watch your TV as well as all of its programming on your cell phone.

SlingPlayer is normally compatible with most Smartphone’s. I decided to take a look on the site to see what phones are compatible, but it does not say anything about the Apple iPhone. It looks that a number of people who used to have a Smartphone might regret jumping ship and going over to the Apple iPhone. Smartphone users will be laughing at them now.

Upon digging further, it seems that this client will not be coming to the iPhone soon. This is a major disappointment to iPhone users; they will now be missing their old Windows Mobile compatible phones. The thing is, if we had a Apple iPhone SlingBox, that app would shift by the thousands. Apple it seems is the stumbling block

Why don’t you try googling a little? Sounds like someone’s a little bitter that they can’t afford an iPhone

I recently started using http://parkmytv.com to host my slingbox giving me MUCH better video quality since they dedicate outbound bandwidth (better than my home dsl) to me plus I no longer annoy my wife by changing channels on her mid-stream when I’m traveling :) I got in to an early trial I think they are still accepting sign-ups…

Daniel, that parkmytv.com is not really a great alternative considering it costs you $49 per month. Once you have the slingbox and slingplayer software (the software is $35 I think) that’s all you have to pay for… no monthly payment, nothing. That is the big attraction with slingbox. Here is a link to a blog on Slingmedia’s site: http://www.slingcommunity.com/blog/entry/30050/SlingPlayer-2.0-Symbian-UIQ-PRO-HD-Catcher-Pre-Orders-and-more…/?page=1 They are working on it, hopefully it will be out soon as I miss having it when I had my Treo750. The other alternative is Orb. They allowed software for 100 beta testers on the app store but I have not heard much more about that. Orb requires your computer to remain powered on and needs a tv tuner, slingbox does not require either of those.

Well, consider not living in the US or traveling a ton who has time to babysit hardware and figure out how to install it and wire it up - this made if pretty easy for me. The hardware alone is close to $300 to buy a slingbox with shipping and tax and than you are stuck w/crappy home upload speeds…

Daniel is obviously working for parkmytv. A simple search reveals horrible reviews for parkmytv. STAY AWAY

I started using parkmytv.com from Thailand and works like a charm for mei. I’m an expatriat and it’s a pretty ingenius service. The box itself is nearly $250 and they charge $149 so basically first 3 months it’s a wash and than I pay for hosting which is a ton less than paying for an apartment abroad :) Guess it’s relative to need and mine is pretty great…
