BlackBerry Storm: 5 Reasons Why iPhone 3G Worries

By: Daniel Chubb | October 9, 2008 | 4 Comments

The iPhone 3G is the best thing since sliced bread so why should it worry about any other cell phone release? There are some reasons and here are five.

First up the BlackBerry Storm 9500 has a better-than-iphone 3.2 megapixels, which also has the ability to zoom, autofocus, and has flash. You can even record video as standard at half-VGA resolution. Second you can send images taken from the 3.2MP camera and use 3G speeds for sending emails (remember the BlackBerry Storm is an email device).

Third up we have the perfect business phone/gadget for mobile professionals, you can use 3G in Europe and the United States. Other places in the world where you can access GSM networks to roam. Fourth is the Storm’s new user interface that makes it really easy to use as a business device with Outlook syncing, editing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel docs. Perfect Enterprise Integration.

Last but not least is something very important, and that’s Cut-and-Paste. This cannot be understated and so far we cannot do this on the iPhone’s software. Bloggers know we need this for blogging on the go and many more reasons.

Do you miss Cut-and-Paste on the iPhone? If you don’t own an iPhone, then what do you prefer most. The iPhone 3G or BlackBerry Storm?

I don’t think those are enough reasons to pick the Storm over the Iphone. I am a huge Blackberry lover but not even the storm can compare to the Iphone. The Iphone has so much going for it. I know it doesn’t have perfect push email and cut and paste, but those are things you can live without. You do get a pinpoint touchscreen, The Application store(which I didn’t think much of until I used it hands on), and an Ipod built in. They both have there Up and Downs but I do believe the Iphone will once again come out on top on this one. RIM needs to start putting better Ads out there for there phones in my opinion. The Bold in Canada barely got any notice because no one knew exactly when it was coming out or how much it was going to be until right before it was launched.

Just viewed the video of the Storm.

I hate to say this…. but it just REEKS of a ME TOO! device.

even the video oozes of an Apple type of teaser,BUT it just does not seem to pull it off very well.

I mean there are so many cuts to the video from transition to transition.

I say, RIM must be shaking in their collective boots. People please keep in mind that no matter how much BETTER the hardware may seem…. in the end it all comes down to what is under the hood… ie Software…. & it just seems Apple is so many years ahead with iPhone. The killer too is that Storm lacks WiFi just plain crazy to me.

iJah420 says Storm is not an iPhone Killer, its even having problems being an iPhone WannaBe. Just look @ how archaic the software looks on the Storm.

RIM IS the Company that needs to WORRY…. HELLO!!

This is why RIM will fall by the wayside…

    1. Blackberies and M$FT are…… “So Yesterday!!”
    2. Apple Rocks! Face It College kids KNOW. THEY ACTUALLY USE THE STUFF!
    3. “Widoze SUCKS” but you can install it on a Macbook. :/ …..
4th and final.. NO company can stop this TIDAL WAVE of iPhone/iPod Touch.

iPhone, iPod Touch Takes Over at Texas University

    Posted 17 October 2008 @ 7am in News

The students at ACU were the lucky recipients of either an iPhone 3G or iPod Touch plus a collection of Web Apps written by ACU. This is just one example of an upswing in Apple sales to educational organizations which in recent years has been in decline. Apple’s sales have eclipsed Dell, which used to rank first in education sales.

The use of Apple hardware at ACU is part of the university’s Mobile Learning and the Connected Campus program. It was open to over 1,000 students and faculty. The equipment was supplied by the university, but in the case of the iPhone 3G, the student and/or their parents had to select and pay for their own cellular calling plan. ACU received an award from Campus Technology as an innovator in Mobile Learning for their program.

iPhone/iPod distribution was designed to allow students to leave their laptops at home when they go to class. Faculty was trained to develop curricula that incorporates the use of these devices by adding podcasts, flashcards, polls, and live assessments for use in classes across the ACU campus. Students were also encouraged to use Google apps over the internet for their class work. The web apps created for ACU students are polished. One, called mymobile, tracks classes in which a student is enrolled, stats about the class (professors name, etc.) and map of the college campus so you can find out how to get to the class. The college is also making extensive use of the iTunes U section of the iTunes Store. According to the Campus Technology website:

“Internal marketing on the program is already in place. To help students (and other faculty members) prepare for the deployment, faculty and education technologists have communicated their vision through a special blog, a unique mobile learning web portal, and a student-produced film that, as of May 15, had been downloaded more than 25,000 times.

“Bill Rankin, director of mobile learning and a professor of English, says that while this film has helped introduce newcomers and potential business partners to the program, the process of developing it yielded some unforeseen benefits as well: The video has encouraged faculty and students to re-imagine the learning process in bold new ways, and to buy into that vision earlier than they may have otherwise. ‘One strength of moving mobility at ACU has been putting educators and developers in the same room,’ says Rankin.”

iJah420 says….In a nutshell Apple Thinks Different!!! AND with or WITHOUT Jobs the fact remains they have something that is Insanely GREAT!!

Why should the iPhone 3G (Apple) worry? Their not the one’s copying. It looks like RIM is worried, that’s why they created the Storm. There are too many production and marketing problems with RIM. They haven’t even released the Bold in the US and they’ve probably lost a lot of sales.

BOTTOM LINE: The one thing that makes the Blackberry Storm a high-tech paper weight compared to the iPhone 3G is simply – wifi – or lack of it. It doesn’t have WIFI! You are forced to purchase a data plan just to surf the web and cannot access any wifi networks (home, office or school). Even if the Blackberry Storm had specs 10x better than the iPhone 3G I still would not buy it without wifi.
