Yahoo! Mobile and Presidential Election 2008 Exit Poll
By: Daniel Chubb | October 8, 2008 | 1 CommentI don’t need to tell you that the use of alternative media is a major undercurrent in this year’s election. If you blink, you’ll miss the latest tech method the candidates are using to galvanize voters or the hottest election story that’s breaking online. (Can someone say McCain and Twitter?).
As a result, the Internet is the place 50%+ people now get there election news fix. And that’s why as the presidential race heats up between Obama and McCain, there’s also another competition brewing to see which online destination can win over the largest audience for election-related news. I think you might be surprised who’s winning this “online election race” — Santa Monica-based Yahoo!
With over 40 million readers each month, Yahoo! has played a big role in this techiest election ever and is gearing up for Election Day with new resources to meet the insatiable appetite of politicos everywhere. I am contacting you to determine your interest in an election tech round-up segment, offering your viewers an update on the latest election trends and tools to keep them updated and actively involved in this historic election.
Some of the offerings from Yahoo! include the Political Dashboard, which offers a fun “create your own scenario” feature allowing users to find their inner pundit and predict how the electoral college map will unfold. Yahoo!’s homepage, the most popular homepage in the country, has dedicated sections encouraging users to register, and come Election Day, will have snapshots on how candidates are faring as each state selects a winner.
By searching for “Obama” or “McCain” voters can get a shortcut to poll results, recent headlines and relevant online discussions. And many voters will be conducting last-minute online searches via Yahoo! mobile — it could very well provide the latest form of an “exit poll” come Election Day.
