iPhone 2.1 Firmware: POP, IMAP Email Problem

We all know how bad Apple’s iPhone firmware 2.0.2 was, which is why they rushed out version 2.1. Apple said that the contacts will now load faster, and I have to say they are correct. However; there is word that there are still a few issues with this new firmware update.

There are reports that if you use POP or IMAP mail accounts, which you use to collect your email then you will fall foul to a bug. When the phone is sleeping it will not collect your emails, the phone has to be plugged in to retrieve your messages.

We are not sure why this would be, it can’t have anything to do with conserving power, if it is then it is the worst thing that Apple have ever thought of. As an iPhone user I have not noticed this problem with firmware 2.1, have you noticed any problems?

Yep. I have certainly seen this problem with no email being downloaded while the phone is sleeping. It does not seem to STOP downloading, however, just to download much less frequently!

After sitting overnight, I will have downloaded messages in the morning, but after sitting idle for an hour or two, there is nothing until I wake the phone up. Then it downloads everything immediately.

I can’t collect mail via POP3 or IMAP even manually with 2.1. The settings are definitely correct.

The iPhone authenticates as is clear from the server logs, but then sits there ‘Checking for messages’ and never completes. The only way out is a forced quit.

Something more fundamental than just fetch scheduling is broken.
