AMD has split: two divisions needed to fight Intel

AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) are to announce today that they will be splitting their company in two. One division will concentrate on the designing of their microprocessors, while the other division will handle the costly business of manufacturing them.
AMD has had to take this drastic step so that they are able to maintain the fight with rival, Intel. AMD have also announced that they have received a cash injection of $6 billion into their two new divisions, from two Abu Dhabi investment firms.
Most of the money will be used to finance AMD’s new chip factory near Albany, N.Y., as well as upgrade the one that they already have in Dresden, Germany. Read the full article
