25 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter’s headed for Middle-East
By: Peter Chubb | October 1, 2008 | 1 CommentThe U.S. government has approved the sale of 25 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft to Israel. There is also an option for another 50 more to head out to the Middle East with a deal worth $15.2 billion.
The Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency, has said that this deal is vital to both the U.S. and Israel, as it helps Israel to maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability. DSCA said that Israel needs these aircraft to help enhance their air-to-air as well as air-to-ground defense.
The first 25 F-35s are the Conventional Take-Off and Landing (CTOL) configuration. The other possible 50 aircraft will be CTOL or Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing (STOVL) aircraft. One thing is certain; this will only help to fuel the anger of other states in the Middle-East.
