There are some rumors floating about that Xbox 360’s that are hitting our stores now have the newer 65nm Jasper chipset. This new chipset has been most anticipated, not all 360 consoles will have the new piece of hardware.
If you are about to purchase a new Xbox 360, the best way to see if it will have the new 65nm Jasper chipset is by the manufacturing date. As long as it has a MFR as early as 2008-08-06, Lot 8031 and up, and Team CSON, then you are likely to have the new piece of hardware inside.
The new Jasper boards as we said features the 65nm (nanometers) GPU and CPU chips. The result is an Xbox 360 that uses less power and runs cooler and quieter. Hopefully these will mean an end to the RROD.

Has anyone got one of these yet and know if it’s quieter?
A word of advice for people in the UK, some Game stores (maybe all) will refuse to let you see the lot number before buying.
I picked up one of the Red Resident Evil 5 Limited Edition Elite’s a couple weeks ago. Runs MUCH cooler, MUCH quieter, and according to the power brick, only uses 150 Watts as opposed to the Falcon Chipset which uses 175 Watts, and the Xenon Chipset which uses 203 Watts.
That’s good to hear, M$ stitched up Elite buyers. Those who paid the most for their machines got a noisy beast of a machine with the old chips where as Arcade owner’s machine’s are virtually silent in comparison. I’ll be looking to trade in, maybe even for a RES machine if I can.
M$ didnt “Stitch up” elite owners. They made a decision based on what was going to sell more, which makes sense from a business perspective. Arcades sell more than Elites, so you cover the bigger seller first.
