According to a Japanese tech news site it seems that Sony are going down the route of cost-saving scenarios, in that we have learned that the future Sony PS4 will have the same processor that is found in the current PS3.
Cell BE with SCE PS4 away from the possibility that it is still, for now, Cell BE-based version of the expansion and improvement are moving in a direction to be.
The PS4 chip will be reduced in size it has been said and that they will be lowering the cost of production, but come on we expect to see a different and much more powerful processor then the one we currently have. The thing is Sony really have to pull their finger out if they wish to compete with the likes of the Nintendo Wii when it comes to low-cost. We will have to see what the PS4 will bring, and yes that is a long way off yet.

Does that mean that we’ll have to wait until the PS4 to unlock the “true potential of the Cell Processor”?
based on… not the same!!!
its like saying the core 2 duo is the same as a pentium, cause both are x86.
sony can easy double or triple the speed on the cell, ibm already mention a 6ghz chip.
sony also could put more than one cell in each ps4, like intel do in the core 2 duo or core 2 quad.
It looks like developers are having a hard time learning how to program multiple core chips… The hardware from Intel and IBM is available already (Quad Cores, Cell chips and GPU’s etc)… but the software to take advantage of all this extra horsepower is just not there yet.
Not even Vista is ready… why buy a Core 2 duo with Vista if none of the apps will run faster than if they were running on a single core 3ghz Intel processor?
The PS3 was one of the first multi-core consoles on the market and developers still haven’t mastered it yet.
The only consolation for Sony is that the future of computing is multi-core… all developers for all platforms/software will have to learn Multi-Threaded Programming.
People keep saying that software developers haven’t mastered the Cell Processor yet but why do so many PS3 games look worse than the 360 counterparts or almost always run at 720p? It’s balls to say it’s because they haven’t mastered the beast yet when all we want is games looking as good (though I’d prefer better than) the 360 and running at full res.
Console games always look better as the life of the machine goes on but what have we PS3 owners got to look forward to at the end of it’s cycle? Games that look as good as they do on the 360 before upgrading to a PS4 before we can see the potential of the Cell? Of course we’ll have to wait 5 years into the life of the PS4 before we can see it’s full potential. We’re being fed BS here, it’s nothing more than a numbers game.
