COD: World at War beta not coming to Sony PS3

For those Sony PS3 gamers who were looking forward to trying out COD: World at War beta, we have some bad news for you. The online multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: World at War will only be available for PC and Xbox 360.

This is nothing new, when Infinity Ward launched Call of Duty 4 beta last year, it was only made available for the Xbox 360. That will do nothing to ease the anger of PlayStation 3 owners, but I guess it is something we will just have to live with.

An Activision representative did say that the reason why the online multiplayer beta for Call of Duty: World at War will only launch on the Xbox 360 and PC is because of increased server and connectivity data. Oh well, the game looks doomed from the start, I want modern weapons not old ones.

    Get Socom instead! it’s the mutt’s nutt’s.

This is why we like to pay a small fee for Xbox LIve, i’ve got nothing against PSN it is free after all and is an adequate service for many less online orientated players but to those who claim PSN is on par with Live and claim we’re stupid to pay a fee, i can only reiterate that you only get what you pay for, the fee guarantees adequate servers are always provided and does’nt rely on the good will of the game makers.

What does that have to do with PS3 users not being involved in a Beta? They will have to have it all in place for when the game ships anyways so it’s not like the servers won’t be there…

  4. Grey Fox on September 30th, 2008 3:16 pm

Good. I will not play it then. I’ll be happy playing Resistance instead.

My problem is that if developers will not support the users why should we support them. Developers have been giving the PS3 the shaft since day one and frankly I am getting tired of it. If they are getting paid a bunch of money to make a game exclusive or to make it a times release then fine. They are like all other greed businesses and they are trying to make the most money they can, but if it is suppose to be equal then make it equal. No more crashing PS3 version or in last years Madden 30fps, and then they wonder why the game does not sell as well. I will not be buying this game. Demo are a great chance for me to play the game first to determine whether I like the game before I buy it, and many games I have bought because the demo was so much fun (resistance, Heavenly sword, Star wars: Force Unleached, and Naruto: Ultimate Ninja to name a few). So good luck but I will not purchase this game nor promote this game in the store I work in. Resistance for PS3 or Gears for XBOX.

It’s a Beta not a demo… The purpose is too TEST the online section of the game, if it was a demo then it would be available for download for all via PSN or XBOX live. google the difference between beta and test and it might stop you sounding like an idiot!

    @ Rob.W

I think it is you that is missing the point, without full beta testing by a large demographic of the online gaming community, the online section of the game is far more likely to be buggy and problematic on the PS3 version and i’m sure the PS3 community don’t want another sub par port.

  8. Rob.W on October 2nd, 2008 8:51 am

I was referring to the comment about playing a demo to determine whether to buy the game or not. Most Beta’s are restricted and don’t accommodate every PS3 user out there, whereas a demo is for one and all. The article makes no mention of whether a demo will be coming to all platforms or not…

I totally agree this game and all others should be beta tested on all platforms, from what i remember CoD:4 was just as buggy for Xbox and PS3 upon release even after beta test that was soley for xbox?

  9. Mike on October 2nd, 2008 2:18 pm

I said it was “far more LIKELY to be buggy” not that it was certain, they could get lucky i guess but the odds are better if it’s FULLLY beta tested, as for COD4 i don’t own that game, i borrowed it for a week and never played online but i’ll take your word for it. I’ve heard of more games having online bugs on PS3 ports than on the 360, i’m not a fanboy and i don’t wish to turn my point into a flame war, i just think there is an advantage to had in paying a small price for xbox live.

Stop getting your knickers in a knot sony fanboys you can still play the open beta on the PC and stop hating on the game its their choice and to be frank with you its hard to get a beta onto the ps3 and distribute codes because there is servers for each game dedicated for xbox and normal servers for PC. Why don’t you look at videos for the game its the same version as the xbox360 with co-op and multiplayer and kickass singleplayer and you know im fuckign voer people going “its not cod4 so it must suck” you dooschbags are proberbly missing out on one of the best games of the year for Resistance 2 it looks the same as the last one if i was you i would wait for Killzone 2 that game has way more innovation Resistance is just “bigger” this and “bigger” that with no atention to atmosphere, story or how the servers will run the game. Treyarch aren’t out to get you with not releasing the beta for the PS3 and it will not be a port ask anyone out there on the internet it is so much easier to beta test a game on the XBOX360 and PC then the PS3 all games have done it, its just the demo’s which are the exception this way they can iron out the roblems on these 2 platforms then give you ps3 guys a fully done game its not as if one day Treyarch were like “HEY GUYS WE MIGHT AS WELL START ON THE PS3 VERSION ITS GETTING A BIT LATE, NAH WE MAY AS WELL GIVE THEM A CRAPPY GAME” they are working on the ps3, pc, xbox360, ds and wii versions all at the same time there is no preference out at Treyarch and why would they want to cut corners they have already said they are sick and fucking tired of being Infinity Ward’s bitch and want to stand out on their own. By the way the writer of this article is a doosch!

  11. i am me on October 14th, 2008 3:24 pm

who cares, PS3’s oppinion on how the game runs online dosent matter, they get the scraps that didnt make it onto the 360, just seems to me that the game devolopers like the 360 better than the ps3, ps3 is garbage true fact, shut ur bawwwin up an go play ur resistance garbage

  12. Adam on October 17th, 2008 12:45 am

did it occur to the op, or anyone else harping on, that beta tests, especially ones open to public(no matter how limited) are 9 times outta 10 a stress test on the games servers
No offense meant towards the fine people who play on PSN, but your a very small miniority, PC and 360 aren’t-Look at the sells for any multiplayer cross platform title, and see which system sells more copies, logs more players etc…
I don’t think this was intended to be a snub although it appears alot of PS3′ers see it that way
As said in one of the above posts, if your that put off then beta on a PC, or god forbid a 360(Say what you will, but after 10+years clerk’n and managing game stores, most serious gamers have both consoles, but will only own up to their fav) and make your decision off that- Besides if any of you played CoD4, the differences are very little save for arguments on which looks better

  13. DJMORRO on October 17th, 2008 6:40 pm

See this is why the PS3 sucks balls? Treyarch know this so they didn’t bother to give u the WAW Beta. It rules by the way. :)

  14. rumchaser on October 18th, 2008 12:27 pm

I dont think its just about ps3 i think they have been paid off because they wont even sell a collectors edition for ps3 so i just wont buy the game at all even though i own both consoles and a pc

  15. staypuff on October 27th, 2008 6:43 am

seriously i don’t know why any game is ‘exlusive’ if they just sold it to pc, xbox360 and ps3 they would make far more money, this is just sony and ms battling it out to see who has the most moneyz. So far ms is winning its as simple as that as i said earlier u need to buy this game if your a cod fan don’t take the advice of all those so called “call of duty experts” who started at cod4 and think they know everythign about cod series.

  16. Keith on October 29th, 2008 7:50 pm

Doesnt matter what happens, note the simple facts 33% of xbox 360s have fallen to the fate of the ring of death whilst a mere 0.2% of PS3 have had faults… But we all have faults Microsoft rush things and clearly show you rushing doesnt win the battle a large amount of gamers arent even using their Xbox’s anymore cause their constantly breaking down and trust me as a previous user of the Xbox 360 it was good at start but all the problems just arent worth it… PS3 will always be the more powerful and reliabile console.

“Oh well, the game looks doomed from the start, I want modern weapons not old ones.”

Lol. Your ignorant. It is going to be amazing. I’m in beta BTW.

  18. Bronson on November 6th, 2008 8:23 pm

Rob.W your the idiot because it is a DEMO….anyone who has Xboxlive can Download it NOOB. It was going to be a beta. but they decided to make it avaible to everyone. so RESEARCH B4 YOU TALK

  19. AK47 on November 6th, 2008 9:01 pm

Nothing new here guys, It was the same for COD 4. The x-box needs this kind of extra attention as it is lacking in everything else compaired to the PS3. What are they going for now like $150. I should buy one just to play the stupid Beta then throw it off a cliff.

  20. KingJdXT on November 10th, 2008 7:36 pm

thats why i play PC cause with PS3/XBoX its always problems that dont make any since. if i were a ps3 user i’d not buy this, only support games that support u fair trade.

  21. steven.G on November 11th, 2008 11:14 pm

kk umm ps3 rocks 360 sucks such big hairy nutsack but its ok. cod5: world at war should come out for ps3 cuz cod was originally a PayStation game so if it doesnt come out 4 ps3 than y make the game at all. oh and from other websites that i’ve viewed, the game is comin out for ps3 so according to me this website is soo WRONG!!!!!

@ Bronson as posted above i received from CallOfDuty.com an invitation to PC and Xbox BETA from Treyarch. They are calling it a BETA are they wrong then and therefore noobs, i think they would know you idiot. I can’t comment on whether it was availble via Live as i don’t own a ****box.

Steven.G perhaps you should read the title of the blog again as it’s talking about the Beta not coming to the PS3 not the game itself

  24. Rob on November 12th, 2008 11:23 am

    (my comments are getting posted!)

@ Bronson - If you had done your research you idiot you would know that at the point of my previous posts the CoD:WaW was Beta only and only later made available for Gold members you noob. Talk about making yourself sound like a twat!
