Sprint mobile WiMax wireless network launched in Baltimore
By: Peter Chubb | September 29, 2008 | Leave a CommentSprint Nextel Corp. has finally launched their WiMax service to customers in Baltimore. WiMax is Sprint’s mobile wireless network for laptops; the service will cost $30 per month. This is the first commercial network in America to use WiMax technology for mobile customers.
What makes WiMax different to mainstream cellular broadband technology is that it offers fast downloads. Sprint is hoping that the technology from Intel Corp., will allow them to gain a head start over other companies.
For those who wish to use the WiMax wireless service, you will need to spend $60 on a laptop card as well as a home modem of about $80. It is hoped that a USB modem along with laptops with built-in WiMax modems will be available later this year.
