ScottishPower tidal energy farm to power 40,000 homes
By: Peter Chubb | September 29, 2008 | Leave a CommentGlobal warming is a subject that is on all of our minds, and it is out constant hunger for electricity that is a major factor. The most common way for generating electricity is by burning coal at a power station, and as you know that releases harmful gases which causes global warming.
One cleaner way for us to get electricity is by using the power of the sea. ScottishPower are about to become involved in a major tidal energy project, which will happen on the coasts of Northern Ireland and Scotland.
These sites will be located at Antrim Coast, Pentland Firth and the Sound of Islay. If the tests are successful, then the tidal turbines should be able to supply power for up to 40,000 homes.
