Ryanair allow mobile phone calls on planes: international roaming rates
By: Peter Chubb | September 25, 2008
Ryanair is to allow passengers to make calls on their mobile phones on their planes; it is thought that the service will be implanted within weeks to at least ten of their aircraft. The technology will eventually be spread across to the rest of Rynair’s fleet of 50 planes.
Ryanair’s deputy chief executive, Howard Millar, has said that the cost of making these calls will be similar to that of international roaming rates from mobile phone companies. Millar has said that the demand for this service will be more for texting than making phone calls.
Passengers will still not be allowed to make calls during takeoff and landing, they will have to wait until the plane has reached its cruising altitude. It is the advances in technology that has made this all possible, as before it was considered too dangerous to use your mobile phone on a plane as it would jeopardize the safety of the plane and its passengers.
