Will Android G Phone bite the Apple iPhone 3G?

The two phones that are going head-to-head has got to be the all new Android G Phone and the Apple iPhone 3G, and we want to compare the two together briefly and let you decide.

Google has the all new hi-tech smartphone called the G-phone (G1) being sold by T-Mobile soon, and Apple has the iPhone 3G which is Exclusive in the UK with O2, but who will come out on top, can Apple continue their success when the G1 finally goes on sale in October. Let me break it down a little to compare the two phones side by side, the G Phone (G1) has a touchscreen and of course 8GB of memory whereas so does the iPhone 3G, the iPhone 3G has iTunes whereas the G Phone may possibly have Amazon Music (read more about that here).

Lets take a look at the specification breakdown, first up lets start with the G Phone; In-store, immediate sales only available in stores within 2.5 mile radius of a 3G covered area, One touch access to: Search, Maps, Gmail, Youtube, Calendar, and Google Talk, GPS, 5.6 ounces, Gmail account and data plan required (but possibly free, read more here), 3.1 MP camera with autofocus but no video recording, No stereo bluetooth (A2DP), 4.6 x 2.16 x 0.63 inches, 130 hour standby time, 5 hour talk time, Expandable up to 8GB and 480×320 65K color screen. Obviously much more features than this but they are scarce at the moment.

Now lets look at the iPhone 3G main specs: Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 – 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 – 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm which is a little thicker – 133 grams in weight which is lighter – Same 3.5 inch Touchscreen (16M colors/320 x 480 pixels) – Multi-touch input method – Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate – Proximity sensor for auto turn-off – Ambient light sensor – Polyphonic & MP3 Ringtones – Vibration – Flush 3.5 mm headset jack – Photocall and near enough unlimited phonebook entries and fields – Call records (100 received, dialed and missed calls) – 8 or 16GB built in memory versions – GPRS – EDGE – 3G HSDPA – WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11b/g – Bluetooth v2.0 headset support only – USB v2.0 – Mac OS X v10.4.10 – Email & SMS Messaging – Safari HTML Browser – Downloadable games and applications – Same 2 megapixel camera – Built-in GPS receiver – A-GPS function – Google Maps – iPod audio/video player – PIM including calendar – to-do list – TV output – Photo browser/editor – Voice memo – Integrated handsfree – Up to 300 hours standby time and Up to 10 hours talk time.

Just a few errors to correct:

“the G Phone (G1) has a touchscreen and of course 8GB of memory whereas so does the iPhone 3G”
Fact: The G1 comes with minimal built-in storage, but will support (with the addition of user purchased memory card) up to 8GB only
Fact: The iPhone includes either 8GB, 16GB, or (soon) 32GB of built-in storage.

“Now lets look at the iPhone 3G main specs:… 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm which is a little thicker”
Fact: 12.3 mm = 0.48 inches. The iPhone is quite a bit thinner (not thicker) than the G1′s 0.63 inches.

    “Same 3.5 inch Touchscreen (16M colors/320 x 480 pixels) – Multi-touch input method”

Fact: The G1 has a smaller 3 inch screen.
Fact: The G1 does not have multi-touch like the iPhone. It has single-touch only.

Another fact not covered in the article: the G1 cannot connect to work e-mail (Outlook server), while the iPhone can.

Its manufacturer HTC called it “The most exciting phone in the history of phones.” I compiled a list of all software, hardware and service flaws of G1 and asked the question, “Would Apple have been utterly crucified and AAPL have tanked if the iPhone came out with so many shortcomings?” in:

Just looked over the list and it’s pure garbage.

No iTunes? Well, of course not.

    Idiot.

hands down…the iPhone is the clear winner in every aspect. One thing that stood out to me is the outdated 65K color display vs a whopping 16M color display on the iPhone. Why would anyone want that?

Well the Google G1 has already seen improvement from all standpoints, also it’s easily unlockable, and one of the main flaws for the iPhone is that texting/typing could only be done at a 25-30wpm max, while with the qwer pad on the Google G1 texting can be topped out at over 150wpm (wpm=words per minute). It’s also proven that the operating system is actually faster on the G1 then compared to that of the iPhone G3, and the iPhone still has seen had time to upgrade, now the direct service isn’t yet as fast but it’s getting there.
iTunes, yes well of course not, but Apple doesn’t have the music monopoly it once did, expect limewire applications ect. to be on the Google G1.
At the time being they are pretty much equal phones, but since the Google dosen’t have the limitations apple does be prepared for the G1 or any of the models after to soar way above expectations and beat maybe even crush the iPhone.
