Warhammer Online Review: explosive growth

Warhammer Online Review: explosive growth

By: Daniel Chubb | September 22, 2008 | 6 Comments

Today we take Warhammer Online and review its explosive growth in only a few days since its launch (September 18th).

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning could become one of the most played pc games thanks to it currently hitting the number 5 spot on XFIRE’s most played list. This is incredible considering the small amount of time it’s been available.

When you take a closer look at the stats, you can see that it works out to around 12,000 plus gamers with each of them spending an average of 335 minutes playing. This compares to WoW that currently has 260 minutes of game time per user and gives you an idea of how big Warhammer Online has become.

Will the game crash in the coming weeks or will it pose a threat to World of Warcraft?

no offense, but I read this expecting a review, like the title says. this is definitely not a review, it is complete speculation, and relatively unimportant.

for those who care: this game gives you options. you can choose to solo quest, solo grind, group quest, group grind, if you don’t have friends you can public quest and join public groups, you can open world RvR, or you can scenario PvP, all from the get go. All of these will net you xp and loot, meaning any of these are viable options for leveling. Many of the classes are very interesting, and it seems to be a rock-paper-scissors style of balancing, although tactics and numbers can overwhelm any class advantages.

It’s hard to say whether the end game will be great or not at this point, but the leveling definitely isn’t boring!

I would say that if Warhammer didn’t have more average time played than WOW right not that would be extremely bad. Remember most people in WOW are taking a break/chilling at the moment waiting for the expansion. The true test will be whether or not people playing Warhammer stay there once their free time is up and when Wrath iof the Lich King comes out. Age of Conan suffered this way and i don’t forsee anything different for Warhammer

Or, when WotLK comes out and ppl start WoWing again, the endless walking/flying around to get to a computer controlled enemy which always acts in exactly the same way will have lost its charm and ppl will stick to WAR :p

This isn’t a hypothetical situation but my personal experience from player WoW, then WAR beta next, then WoW again until WAR came out..

I have to agree with namedanonymous though: I was expecting a review when I opened this link!

This game is not like AoC at all, to make a comparison and doomsday it is a very silly thing indeed. As others here have said. Awesome game, lots to do, and fun, a very very fresh bright experience coming from the boring repetitive grind in every way that is WoW. (Yes been playing for nearly 3 years, and probably wont be going back now WAR is here) Just a total breath of fresh air, love the RvR, love the Public quests and the overall balance of gear available. The graphics is terrific, the music is great, what more can I say. I am thoroughly enjoying this game and look forward to getting on it anytime I can ;) . (And in relation to my last comment, every moment spent in WAR is not like WoW, it is enjoyable, it isnt a grind, everything you do has purpose, and it is fun constantly) Thoroughly recommend to all MMO players.

The game is still horribly imbalanced ATM. It’s severely biased towards casters, which I believe shouldn’t be in the game at all. This ultimately led to me unsubscribing from the game. I like how Craig has time and time again referred to the game being “group” balanced, but when he references pvp in relation to gear, he is clearly talking about 1 v 1. The game, its designers, and directors continue to contradict themselves. I won’t be resubbing unless there are some major class balance changes. Conan would be ashamed of this P.O.S.
When you wake up in the morning you have the choice to achieve anything you want. Do not waste another do reading stupid web comments…get out there and live life!
