Can Xbox 360 Successor Microsoft Phoenix beat PS4 or Wii 2?

By: Daniel Chubb | September 22, 2008 | 30 Comments

We all know that in the gaming world it is all about what gaming console will be the successor, we have fanboys and girls, price cuts, exclusive games and so much more to make the gaming world what it is today, but what will the future hold for gaming consoles, and who will come out on top.

The Sony PS4 and the Nintendo Wii 2 will be coming onto the markets sooner or later and we know how successful they will be, personally for me it would have to be the PS4. Who will be the clear winner in the future is any ones guess.

This is called the big three, and they are the PS4, Wii 2 and of course the Xbox 360 Successor Microsoft Phoenix. The successor to the Xbox 360 codename ‘Phoenix’ is already being worked on, come on they are working on it now because the Xbox 360 has totally underperformed with its many problems, and you fans of this console can moan all you like at PS3 fans but it is true, all consoles have their setbacks of course they do. “Who will win the console war?

“We all know that in the gaming world it is all about what gaming console will be the successor, we have fanboys… for me it would have to be the PS4… [Microsoft] are working on it now because the Xbox 360 has totally underperformed with its many problems”

Oh dear. Do you just want us to say the PS4??

  • Blake

This is the second ps3 Fanboy article I’ve seen posted by Mark. Get a life and post something real.

  • Vince

Shame we can’t rate these Articles cos that was just shocking!

“they are working on it now because the Xbox 360 has totally underperformed ”

Where has it underperformed?? Games that come out on both PS3 and Xbox are pretty much identical, except the online of xbox is much better.

  • D2

Will you learn how to write? You are an advertisement for Sony dweeb. Worthless article.

  • Blake

Totally agree Vince. Everybody check this site out if you think the 360 is underperforming. Lol, Mark you still make me laugh.

  • Symo

Hold on, surely the PS3 is underperforming? – As PS3 fanboys are always claiming its more powerful than the Xbox360, yet no game or software has shown this!

As everyone above has said, PS3 & Xbox360 gams are pertty much identical, accept when you get online and then Xbox Live kicks the PS3′s ass.

Sony are going to have to bring out PS4 sooner than they planned as, the PS3 just isn’t up to the task. It’s only any real good as a Blu-Ray player.

  • VinTheDean

The xbox can generate some very nice games. i give them that. unfortunately, it is not future proof. The DVD is starting to hold back developers that want to use FULL SIZE texture without having to do major compression.

    The PS3 is future proof.

  • Slippy Sloppy

    Nothing is future proof.

  • Chip

If you actually believe anything can be future proof, you’re an idiot. Will the PS3 be future proof when a new disc format comes about? what about all of the harddrive upgrades and the other downgrades that Sony does with the PS3? If it were future proof, they wouldn’t have to upgrade the hardware ever, no bigger HDD because the one that came with it is enough and what about the recent removal of back compatability? Doesn’t sound too future proof to me. So cling on to your $ony hyperbole and enjoy the ride, because there won’t be a PS4. No need for it, The PS3 is “FUTURE PROOF.”

  • Ted

Xbox 360 is underperforming? It has sold alot more than the PS3 and with the price cut it will widen the gap even more. Was this article a joke?

  • bob

The only fact supplied in this article is that the codename for the next xbox console is Phoenix. It took you how many words to say this?

  • Fred

I don’t know i will like to see what Nintendo does. But i agree PS3 is not great at all they have absolutly no good exclusive titles they are too dependent on third party games at least Microsoft did their homework on games. Also! Microsoft has experience in the gameing/console market with the PC so why does Sony try to go against the ritches company that i can think of. If Sony is so great why are they in dead last place two places behind Nintendo if the PS3 is great.

  • Salt

I have all three consoles, play the wii the least, followed by ps3 and play 360 most. Mainly bc 360 gamerscore. If im going to play a game that is multi plateform ill play it on the 360 and get some extra credit. Though I do have to say im afraid of the R.O.D. So i like both systems about the same. Love xbox live, 360 controller and gamerscore. Like ps3 hardware/blueray and free online play.

  • Slippy Sloppy

Salt, I have to say I’m in the same position as you and agree with almost what you’ve said. I’m not as bothered about gamerscore but it’s a factor and I’m not so worried about RROD though I do dislike he 360′s fan noise. If there’s a dual format game I want I’ll read the reviews and download the demos and then it comes down to price. The Force Unleashed was available for £10 (approx $20) less on the 360 so my decision was entirely based on this once I read less favourable reviews about the Wii version.

  • Steven

First of all, how do you know there will be a Wii2, PS4, or Xbox 360? When people say there will be a new system here online, it doesn’t mean it’s true.

  • Lauren

Wow…there are a bunch of people on here getting ridiculously insulting towards Mark…

I don’t know Mark and I don’t need to. It’s obvious that his posting has a biased opinion, and people have every right to call him a fanboy… But when you start belittling someone just because they have a fanatic opinion, it only serves to reveal the squrimy, geeky little fanboy inside of you.

You guys are such hypocrites for dogging Mark for being a PS3 fanboy when it’s blatantly obvious that you’re 360 fanboys…

And you know what, at least Mark had the decency to bad mouth the ACTUAL console instead of the console fans.

Personally, I don’t care who wins this “console war”, but I do hope your 360′s blow up in your face, if only due to the fact that you’re being jerks where it’s completely unwarranted.

  • Prolix

It’s rather ignorant to say that the only reason they’re working on their next console is because it’s a “Failure”

Nintendo has already announced it is working on it’s next console, Sony as well. Is it because their systems are a failure? No it is not. Consoles take years to develop and research. From concept to manufacturing, it’s a long process.

  • BlackSenate

…erm…one thing. The writer of this articly fully accepts he is biased against the xbox by stating, and I quote ” you fans of this console can moan all you like at PS3 fans but it is true, all consoles have their setbacks of course they do”.
By effectively drawing a metaphorical line between himself and fans of the xbox by using the words “you fans”, he clearly demonstrates his inability to write an unbiased report and is thus defunct of any journalistic credibility.

I would like to add that I own a PS3, 360 and a Wii and the PS3 is gathering dust! (and it’s the newest!) I love the Wii for things like MarioKart and the 360 has a far superior interface that is user-friendly and easy to set up – plus the achievements definately add something! (note. I bet £100 Sony incorporate a similar system soon!)

In my opinion, the PS3 uses the same, dated interface as the PSP and is simply boring to navigate – the recent x-box 360 update is proof of this alone and is also evidence of Microsoft’s willingness to keep things fresh!.

I was a Playstation customer through and through until I got my Xbos 360 and it has 100% won me over. Both consoles (360 & PS3) have broken in the time that I have had them and both Sony & Microsoft were quick to replace them – so good customer service all-round!

For me it has to be the 360 overall though.

The xbox has underprefomed its success rate is horrible under 40% more bugs in the system then anyother evryq nd there mother got thre 3 rings the system was made horribly to get it out b4 the ps3 the ps3 is the mmore reliable system of the 2 it never crash susccess rste is over 85% and kills the xbox in graphics space and spped its an over all better system

i also own all of them @BLACK i dont think you own one anyways you sound like a pure breed fanboy posting stupip ????? about ps3 get a life just like the journalist

  • http://www.bruceongames.com/ Bruceongames

    Presumably this article is ironic.
The PS3 has been a slow motion train wreck and a total disaster for Sony whilst the Xbox 360 has gone on to be by far the most successful HD console.

As far as I have heard/read, the PS3 was such a failure to sell that the profits from the PS2 were negated by the losses in money for the PS3. Also, don’t get all hopped up over your blu-ray players PS3 fans. There are a lot of blu-ray diodes burning out in PS3′s. Blu-ray is too new and there are a lot of faulty blu-ray diodes floating around still. DVD and CD diodes have been around longer and are closer to being perfected than blu-ray. Like a lot of previous posters mentioned, sure the PS3 has “ultimate power”, but we have yet to see the PS3′s power put to the test. The 360 interface is so much more interesting. The PS3 interface, bland. My brother has both. He rents/buys multi-platform games for 360 more than for PS3. He mainly uses PS3 to play DVDs because of the HDMI cable. It seems to have a tick though, where it will skip/freeze for a couple seconds on burnt DVDs. And yes, 360 does have the RROD and it’s share of problems. Personally, I will play a game on any console as long as it is fun. Although, the achievements on the 360 do add to the fun of games, almost like a mini-game within the game. Correction: Any console except the Wii. I just don’t like the whole motion detection thing. Either way, I can’t wait to see what Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have to offer in the next installment of systems.

Another note: A new game called MAG is coming out soon. Rumored to be a PS3 exclusive. It looks like it might be one kick ass game.

    HAPPY GAMING ONE AND ALL!!

  • http://www.product-reviews.net Arin

What the 360 could never be underperforming! First of all the game play is exactly the same but the 360 has better games like halo and Gears of war and you can listen to your music while you play your game. I mean come on the only thing the PS3 has is the internet but shit we all have computers

  • Devon

The xbox 360 is outperformed by the ps3 in that its anti-aliasing suck, it doesn’t have as good as texture detail, blue ray is better than hd, and the controller does not have motion. The xbox 360 does have better online mode though, and it is NOT outperformed by the wii in my opinion. I do not have a ps3 or an xbox 360, but I have seen these obvious details when playing games on both of them and comparing.

  • Xbox will be in the hands of your kids

Ok! woooww…. just think about halo 1 to 3 ( lol two ) 10 000 000 peoples bought halo 3 at at least 40$ so do the math…400 000 000$ and watch! GTA IV for ps3 was sold not over 5 milions and there is OVER ten milions xbox sold compare of the ps3… PS3 ans Wii fans will piss on there console whene the NATAL PROJECT will be at the neighboor hood houses….. Who really like to play Pure Shit 3 (ps3) sorry about my english

Why are there so many people claiming the xbox 360 has underperformed? How has it? I mean…. What?!
It matches the Ps3 for performance because nobody can use the ps3 properly. Maybe by the time the xbox 720 is out the ps3 will be used to it's potential but at the moment the 360 does not underperform.
People complain about the RROD in the xbox 360 but the ps3 YLOD is just as much of an issue. At least microsoft fixed the RROD. people are still getting new PS3's and YLOD.

Also the xbox 360 dashboard is a complete walkover the terrible XMB for the ps3. Owned a ps3, wii and 360, ps3 was shit so i got rid of it, wii broke, 360 i played 30 mins ago.

The 360 is the best of the 3 and anyone who isn't a fanboy will see this. I'm not a microsoft Fanboy, hell i waited till 2008 before i got my 360 and i got my wii on release day.

All in all i think that anyone who owns or has played all consoles will agree that until sometime in late 2010 or early 2011 the ps3 will not perform to it's best, Over time games improve because the manufacturers learn the limits of the console. PS3 has been out for a much shorter time and hence they are still learning, and with many multiplatform games the developers keep the general game the same and just port it to the other console.

The exclusive titles xbox 360 wins completely.
Having played Resistance and Motorstorm and Killzone 2 for the ps3 i have to say kz 2 was the only one that was pretty good.
Admittedly Motorstorm looked really pretty but it was very repetitive.
Gears of war for the 360 wipes the face of Resistance and KZ2. As for racing games on the 360. Forza, Motorsport, 3. End of discussion

Durex was supposed to be future proof ………9 months later sigh!
