Cray CX1 Desktop Supercomputer with 64-Cores
By: Daniel Chubb | September 17, 2008 | Leave a CommentThis is the Cray CX1 desktop supercomputer with 64-Cores, its existence is thanks to a Cray and Microsoft partnership. If you have a spare $25,000 to $60,000 for a new computer then this could be yours.
The Cray CX1 is designed to get high productivity computing into the mainstream. You may think your latest desktop is super powerful, but the CX1 features 16 Intel Xeon processors that are either quad-core or dual.
You will also find 8 supercomputing nodes that each have 64GB of memory, and the storage tops 4TB. This computer will tear-up Crysis, but the little problem of price will keep it out of most consumer’s hands for now. Read the press release.
